Transportation between MCO and Port Canaveral

Hi. I am new to the DIS Boards and preparing for our first Disney cruise in January. I am looking into ground transportation through a car service to get from the air port to Port Canaveral and back. Does anyone have any good recommendations from personal experience? I cannot find any information on the boards, and there seems to be an endless list on the internet when searching there. Any insight would be helpful. Thanks.

Our group of nearly 30 chartered a bus from Happy Limousine in the fall of 2009. There are 34 of us going again in 2 weeks and we are using their service again. Very nice, clean, great customer service....You probably don't need one of their buses, but we thought it was a wonderful company to work with. And the price per person for the bus is just unbelievable!! Happy travels!! :

One-way rental car. We cruised RCCL out of Port Canaveral last year, rented an intermediate size car from MCO to Cape Canaveral. We used Avis, stayed the night in Cape Canaveral and returned the car to Avis in the morning, free shuttle to the port. Same in reverse for the way back - picked up free rental car shuttle, then drove one-way to MCO for return. Back to MCO was more expensive than MCO to Cape. Total was only $105 roundtrip, so cheaper than Disney transfers, even more so if you have several people. It's about 45 minutes from MCO to Cape Canaveral, very easy drive.

So it depends on your travel situation and often comes down to the number of people for us. We have usually done DCL transportation which is about $70pp round trip. We have also used private car services for various things when we are in Orlando. We have used two companies www.Fltours.com and www.pegasusprofessional.com. We have been happy with both, we are using the latter for our trip this weekend. The round trip cost is around $300 and then whatever tip you want to add. If you have 4 people the costs of private care and DCL start to become similar.

Advantages of DCL transportation:
  • more seamless luggage transportation from the arrival at the airport cruise checkin desk to the ship.
  • get all ramped up on disney before the cruise with videos on the bus
  • when you get to and leave from the cruise terminal it is through a side entrance/exit so the transition is somewhat smoother versus coming in from the front of the terminal
  • Could be cheaper than private car depending on the number in your group

Advantages of private car
  • You pick the time of departure
  • You often get a grocery stop if you want one
  • Much more personal attention
  • *If you have an infant/toddler, a car/booster seat may be provided - this is the biggest plus for us to not have to wrestle our kids on the bus.
  • Often you beat the bus
  • Could be cheaper depending on the number of people.

We like both methods but now we tend to opt for private car.

If you click the link below and scroll down the page a bit you will find a chart that shows the price breakdown from a limo company and DCL transfers so you can judge which would be best for you. 99% of the time we book a rental car to and from the port from the airport.

We love Tiffany Town Car. We have not used them between MCO and PC, but we have used them for R/T transfers between MCO and Disney resorts for several years and will not use anyone else. The drivers are very courteous and friendly, the cars are always clean, and the drivers are always waiting for us when we arrive at MCO. Sometimes we rent a car, but if not, Tiffany Town Car is the service we use.

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions. You have given us some good things to think about as we book our ground transportation.

In our research, we found the following companies which offer cheaper rates than DCL transfers and some of the suggestions received.

1. Friendly transportation
2. Cortrans shuttle service
3. AAA superride

Does anyone have any insights or experience with any of these companies? We realize that cheaper does not always equal better...but we thought we could use the savings for fun onboard or on the islands.

fltours, happy limo, and tiffany are the majors ones discussed on the boards. Go with one of them rather than the list you compiled.
