We have used our macbooks and iPads on the ship and while it can be done, make sure that you realize the service is very slow. I would recommend either getting to some free or cheap wifi at each port or using the internet very early or very late. Also it works better if you get online check your email, then get offline, then compose your replies, then log back in to send any emails. At its best it is a fast dial up speed, at its worst it is unusable. Believe me finding wifi at each port is the best method but you just have to figure out what to do on sea days.

Additionally the cost for internet access in the ship scares some off as well.

I used my Kindle2 on a few days and was able to get access through the cellular at sea service for free. The experimental browser was slow, but worked. And did I mention it's FREE?

With your wireless on, click your Menu button, go down to Experimental and click on it. In the new screen, you'll see "Basic Web" and "launch browser" will be underlined. Clicking on it will open a list of bookmarks. Scroll to the bottom and click on Close Bookmarks and you'll see a web address bar at the top.

I used it to get on Facebook so I could send a message to friends watching our house and animals while we were gone. Other than that, I didn't do much on it.

I used the internet on the Fantasy on my ipad and it was a nightmare! it was expensive (obviously) and slow (again...obviously) but half the time it would use all my minutes just to try to log on then would log me off again so half my minutes were gone and i wasn't able to do anything. i guess it's to be expected on a cruise ship but im just saying it's slow and really annoying. i found better service going to the top adults only deck.

I always bring my ipad with me on cruises but I never use the wifi just because its too slow. I just use my ipad to read, formulate thank you letters for staff, review notes about the ports that I had previously downloaded before my trip and maybe watch a movie.

This is what I found, to be true, when I used my ipad on our October cruise.
