Fantasy Stateroom 7520 (Cat 7A obstructed view verandah) pics
I had a hard time finding pics of the 7A staterooms when I booked my last cruise on the Fantasy, so I thought I'd post a few to help others see if this is worth your while.
FYI, an oceanview stateroom (Cat 8 - single large porthole room) for the 24 Nov 2012 cruise was $1,092 plus taxes, and the cost for the Obstructed verandah (Cat 7A) was $1,113 plus taxes. The $21 per person difference was well worth being able to step outside at any time and relax outside.
In the Cat 8 room, the area the verandah occupies in a 7A is extra interior space, so if you want more inside room, you may want to stick with the oceanview room. My inlaws were in this category cabin so I was able to compare our two rooms. They had a longer desk resulting in extra drawer space, and on the other side was a bed that folded down from the wall to lay in front of the porthole. This gave their room the capacity for 4 (2 in the queen bed, one on the fold down couch, and one on the pull down bed), whereas the 7A can only sleep 3 (queen bed plus fold down couch). They had 2 bathrooms as well, however they did not have a tub, only a stand up shower (with two shower heads though).
Of personal note, the cruise i was on was quite windy on several days, and we had a few rain storms as well. The obstruction at the front of the verandah provided a sort of wind break and only the rearmost few inches was actually getting wet. I was able to sit outside while most other cruisers with verandahs were stuck indoors.
The door (note for newbies - the magnets and fish extender are things you put up yourself)
View as you enter the room. Hidden Below the left side of the desk is the fridge. Below the right side of the desk are more drawers. The couch folds flat to make a second bed. There are no other beds in this room so don't book if you're a party of four or more.
View from the far end of the room looking back toward the door. If you look under the bed, you'll see one of my large suitcases. Plenty of storage space under there for up to four large suitcases. You might be able to get five but I'm not sure.
Bathroom #1 (door closest to the entry door) - toilet, sink, mirror and a few shelves. No electrical outlet in here.
Bathroom #2 (door closest to the bed) - small bath tub (child size, decently deep) with hand held shower head, sink, mirror, shelves, and a power outlet on the ceiling
Two closets and a set of drawers with storage shelves above. The closet closest to the door has the room safe in it.
View looking out the sliding door to the verandah. Note the chunk of white steel on the left obstructing part of the view.
View of the forward portion of the verandah showing the obstruction.
Another view of the obstruction. It starts about 1/4 of the way across at the bottom, and extends to just past 1/2 way across at the top.
View of the rear portion of the verandah showing mostly clear view. Just out of view beside the top corner of the sliding door is an outdoor faucet that works. I'm not sure of its purpose as you'd soak the deck if you used it. There also is a light out here should you want to read outside at night.
Looking forward, head slightly over the rail
Looking aft, head slightly over the rail
Looking straight down
Looking straight up (the circle above is a porthole - there is no balcony directly above you)
My personal opinion is this stateroom was well worth the extra few bucks to move up from a cat 8.

Love the pictures. Thanks! We are in 8520 on The Fantasy this summer. It looks like it is right above where you were, but it is also a 7a. Ours sleeps 4 though.

Thanks for the pictures. My mom will be in 7022 on our upcoming cruise. It's just her in the room and she wanted a verandah and I talked to her and she agreed that the $400 discount (at that point from 5c which the room used to be to 7a) more than made up for the obstruction. There aren't any 7as available now on our cruise, but when they pop up they are now almost $1,000 less than 5cs.

That obstruction would not bother me in the least.....looks like the "secret veranda cabins" on the Magic/Wonder that we have been in. The savings are well worth it in my opinion from a regular verandah and a great value to upgrade to from an oceanview.
