DCL stopping Airport check-in after 13 Dec!

We just checked in for the Fantasy and the person we checked in with said that DCL is stopping doing shop checkin at the Orlando Airport. Anyone else heard about this? It's been such a great experience to be able to check in at the airport and it will be missed. Think we could start an email writing campaign to request they bring it back.

I wonder what the reason is behind this change? Maybe that they are developing a system that may work beter. Maybe we should get more info on what maybe replacing the current system before we campain to remain where we are comfortable. Comfortable is not always better or what we really need. It is just a thought.

Looks like I'll get to try it one time next week, for the last time!

I do agree, perhaps they are making changes and we will have to see what the future holds. It seems to have been wildly popular so I'm sure they have they have some reasons behind it.

Fingers crossed it comes back at some point, even if modified slightly.

Thanks for the head's up - I just posted in another thread about this because this "rumor" seems to keep coming up.

We were told they were discontinuing airport check-in when we were there back at the end of September. They didn't have a date at that point but the CM (looked like whoever was in charge) indicated it was in the upcoming weeks. I wonder if they really mean it this time or if they're trying to deter the "crazy" Internet folks from returning to the airport from WDW to check-in earlier.

December 2013 or Dec 13, 2012?

I just talked to DCL last week and they said that if I were American, I could check in at the airport in January. THis information doesn't change much since I am Canadian and have to check in at the port anyway, even though I am taking the Airport transfers

I guess no one knows what they have in mind. The check in at the airport was designed to reduce the lines at the terminal, and has seemed very successful.

Honestly, I'm not sure that we would stay at the Hyatt OR take DCL transportation without the benefits of this service; each is a separate decision, but with the exception of a very rude CM named Susan, the service at MCO has been wonderful.

How disappointing

This is very disappointing to hear but not surprising. They haven't offered it at the other ports we have gone out of in the last few years.
I have sold this service as another reason to cruise Disney instead another line to friends. No worry about trying to do on-line check-in and print boarding passes - DCL delivered them to your room the night before. No need to worry about looking for your luggage at the port. You just strolled off, through customs, onto a comfortable bus and then walked to your airline gate. This was a huge deal for some people.

Valbob, this thread is talking about checking in for the cruise AT the airport PRIOR to embarking. The preferred checkin FOR the airline AFTER the cruise (which you are referring to) is not being changed at this time. You are safe.

Having never done DCL transfers, I don't know all the logistics, but it always struck me as a little strange that those using this service were checking in at an unsecured area. Maybe they are needing to have consistency with their security process?

Everyone still goes through security at the port. Everyone's luggage is still screened before it goes onto the ship.

I wasn't referring to luggage security. I was referred more to security surrounding a person's identity.

How is the identity part any different checking in at MCO as compared to DCL terminal..just trying to understand what you mean. You still have to show your documents and your passport/BC with photo ID at the MCO check in counter.
