Sunday Morning-Sea Day 1

Confession time.
Hi, I'm Lori and I am a running addict.

As such, I get some really great views of dawn.

On the first morning, there were quite a few walkers and runners out on deck 4 with me, but they seemed to clear out after a couple days.

Anyway. Here's one of my favorite spots to stretch so after a little walking warmup, I claimed this bit of deck to do my prerunning routine.

Then I settled into a nice little pattern.
Run. Be awed by the beautiful ocean. Take a picture or two. And back to running.

So after a while enjoying the odd sensation of running on a moving surface (the gulf rolled the ship quite a bit, and once you add the jogging motion to that, it just compounds the motion, especially on the ramps on the forward end of the deck.) I claimed another bit of the starboard aft part of deck 4 to stretch again.

Took another glance out at the lightening sky, judging that I could snap a few more pictures before the kids sprang awake. And headed inside to poke around a bit.

Thankfully, Animator's Palate stood open:

One last peek at the dawn...

And I headed inside. Back in 5020, I started getting Chris and Kylee dressed, which required far less negotiating than usual. Kylee can be quite insistent on what she cares to wear, but on a suggestion from these boards, I'd packed each child's outfits in individual bags (each giant ziploc contained an outfit containing the tops, bottoms, socks, underthings and even bows) labeled with their name and a day of the week. I didn't have one day where I had to explain what went with that top or searching for the hairbows or socks that went with something else. Chris helped out by finding the bags with the right day of the week. And since we're all quite modest, it gave them one thing to grab on their way to half the split bath to change. Ben still was out for a run, so the rest of us decided to go drop off some fish extender gifts.

The kids really enjoyed finding the different rooms and seeing all of the types of door decorations and fish extenders. Chris said his favorite was the Aggie decorated door and Kylee most enjoyed one with all kinds of princess magnets.
The gift distribution took quite a bit longer than anticipated, so we arrived back to the room, we found Ben quite ready to hit Topsiders for breakfast. Kylee enthused over the prospect of pancakes, and I told her we'd see what they could do. As we arrived and got our trays, I asked the server at the front of the buffet if we could get some vegan pancakes. He scooted off to go get a chef, while I followed our omnivores through the buffet. They had packets of jelly and peanut butter on the buffet as well near the toast. Kylee and I picked from oatmeal and cream of wheat (both we were told were dairy free) and some fruit salad off the cereal bar (which I note contained Rice Krispies, and several other options Kylee can eat). They also had walnuts and almond slivers on the cereal bar and rotated berry types every day. The chef came out and asked Kylee if she would like some vegan pancakes. She enthusiastically said yes.
It took a little bit, but Kylee quite enjoyed her pancakes when they did arrive.

If she wanted to eat at the same time as everyone else, we would need to send one of us down earlier so they could request her pancakes before Chris headed down. We would've been better accomodated in the main dining rooms, but I don't know as the kids would've been happy to have three seated meals a day. Ben and Chris excuse themselves to head back to the room to get changed for the one thing both kids really, really wanted to do but hadn't gotten to the previous day, The Mickey Pool and slide.

Meanwhile back out behind Topsiders, Kylee and I enjoyed a leisurely, if slightly windy end to our breakfast.

On the positive side, after breakfast on deck, it was pretty simple to talk Kylee into letting me pull her hair back the next morning. We headed back down to get her suit on as well and headed up to the Mickey pool.

I was kind of nervous, what with running out to grab something doesn't really work onboard, but I was pleasantly surprised that they were very accomodating.

Sunday Morning and Brunch

After a brief dip in the pool,Kylee and Chris started getting a little blue around the lips (the water in the pools is heated and warm, but Disney still cannot control the weather, so it was a bit chilly for swimming). We headed back to 5020 and swapped the kids back into their play clothes. Chris bounced around in enthusiasm at the prospect of getting to go to the kids club for real. Kylee seemed less sure, but we promised we'd pick her up so she could meet the princesses in the atrium before lunch.
After we checked the kids into the club, Ben and I walked on deck four for a little then got prettied up in preparation for our brunch reservation. We were planning on lounging around for a bit, but the queue for the Princess Gathering already seemed to be getting daunting around 10:30. I left Ben to hold our spot and scurried off to the club to retrieve my princess fan. She burst into tears on seeing me because she did not want to leave the Luau in the Oceaneer Club to go meet the princesses.
Let me give you a second to let that sink in. A bit of background:
Kylee talked about nothing but meeting the princesses for the very first time from the minute she found out that we were going on this cruise. She liked imagining which princesses she might meet. She spends about half of her play time at home dressing up and playing princess. I don't think she's realized that it is different when she's on board or at the Disney store, as we already call her "Princess" at home. And yet whatever they were doing in the club wasn't worth leaving.

I got her in her Snow White dress and about halfway through meeting the lineup (Belle, Snow White, Tiana, Cinderella and Aurora) she calmed down enough to tell Tiana she was her favorite princess and get some cute pictures with Cinderella.
Asking how old she is...

And talking...

The mob scene from above, that line wound it's way most of the way down the deck toward the Promenade Lounge.

Kylee insisted on heading right back to the clubs, we confirmed her lunch with the counselor at check in and scooted off to Palo.
Ben and I loved brunch. Sylvester, our server, walked us through the buffet and pointed out the vegan options for me (flatbreads with olive tampenade, salads, roast veggies, hummus, fruits and much more) and then seated me, assuring me that I could ask for anything and the chef would be thrilled to work something lovely for me. Ben got called by the Oceaneer Club staff during the buffet tour, as they were rechecking that Kylee's lunch special order was arranged (and asking that we not order peanut butter to the club for future requests).
Sylvester stopped back by to present us with our complimentary champagne

(we'd said we don't drink when he'd first offered, so he brought us nonalcoholic sparkling cider, which tasted bubbly and cold and appleish)
He asked if Ben knew what hot dish he'd like, and he ordered the Grape Gorgonzola Pizza and I think the Chicken Parmegiana. I told Sylvester I'd try whatever the chef felt like making. He smiled and took to the kitchen with our orders. I picked at my flatbreads and artichokes and olives and fruit salad. All excellent but completely forgotten with the arrival of a perfect spinach onion pizza.

Seriously delicious and crisp and with a lovely balance of flavors.
And the arrival of this garlicy slightly sweet pasta.

And these roast veggies lightly dressed in balsamic vinegarette.

My main problem was which to put in my mouth first and I happily took tastes back and forth across my three options. I think the pizza was the best or at least it disappeared fastest.
Ben loved his Grape Gorgonzola Pizza but the time I was able to refocus and remember to photograph it, this was all that was left:

He says it is indescribably weird and delicious and a must try. I think it ranked highest on his food all trip.
Ben headed back to the buffet to load up on some pastry and dessert morsels.

Pretty nearly everything on the dessert and pastry buffets involve butter in some way or another, but Sylvester showed up with this:

Oh, my, goodness.
Very slightly sweetened berry reduction on a warm pizza with a very light sprinkling of powdered sugar. I think it contained a tiny pinch of cinnamon and nutmeg. I know I loved every bit of it.
Before I'd made much headway, he returned with a little fun bonus dessert as well.

Strawberry, Basil and Blackberries Sorbet.
Very Sweet.
Very Good.
Very Gone.
And at this point I nearly started crying because I was full but still had two slices of the berry pizza left.
Sylvester boxed it up and we headed off to collect the children for the afternoon.

your pictures are great! and I just have to say how much I admire your ability to get up and jog while on vacation ... I wish I had that kind of motivation.

loved that the chef in Palo was so accommodating - they made you some seriously fabulous looking food!

BTW, forgot to mention we tried that gorgonzola & grape / port wine pizza at our brunch - it was amazingly good. I was skeptical but I'm a believer now!!

An hour and a half. But it would've been faster if Ben hadn't needed to run and talk to the Oceaneers club.

I am enjoying your report!!!

I love the Magic!

Your kids are so cute!

We had Sylvester at Palo for our brunch in September, he is such a nice man.
He brought us out the Gorgonzola and grape pizza to try. It was delish.

Looking forward to reading more and hearing about Thanksgiving Day aboard the Magic.
