MGM Grand

I just stayed at the MGM Grand a couple of weeks ago. They recently renovated all the rooms, but honestly I liked them better before. I liked the older decor that paid homage to old movies. With the renovations, oddly, the rooms weren't any better to me. The bed was moderately comfortable, no iPhone dock, one phone (and it was next to the bed, non on the desk). The automatic window shades were great, and the bathroom was really nice. I guess I just expected more from a hotel that had spent so much money so recently on improvements.

Oh, and the buffet there was average at best. I didn't like it much overall, but there were a couple of standout items (mainly the desserts). It cost about $32 with tax, though, which seemed overpriced.

We decided to stay 'old school' when we visited Vegas in September 12 -at the Flamingo.

Firstly, we were a large group and because of a conference that had been booked we discovered we'd had our rooms bumped to a lower room type and frankly, they were not great. The bed was comfy but more because we were exhausted, than possibly its actually comfort level.

The breakfast/ dinner buffet was excellent however, we ended up paying for one of them twice due to a tick not being put into a box.

The pool was very shallow - something we'd never encountered before - and one had to walk through heavily peopled areas in ones swimmers to access it, so that was a little offputting for an older gal .

The live flamingos were beautiful and I took a billion photos of them.

The main thing that stayed with me from this hotel/casino was the seriously awful ventilation. As a non-smoker I found myself choking most of the time - even the rooms smelled horrific. Other casinos we visited had great ventilation and the smoke didn't rate a mention - namely the MGM , Paris, NYNY and the Venetian.

Would I stay here again... probably not, I loved NYNY and the Venetian and possibly even Paris. Clearly a jump in price, but worth it in my book.
Having said all this, I LOVED Vegas and can't wait to visit again one day.
