Since we had a turkey mishap, we are just having a thanksgiving do over!

Beef tenderloin, potatoes of some type, sugar snap peas, rolls, gooey butter cake of some variety, appetizers before (bacon wrapped shrimp will be one).

We graze all day on Christmas. We start with brunchy items. So we'll have a fruit platter and mini-quiches. Then we'll have a spiral ham, potatoes au gratin, shrimp platter and homemade cookies. I'm hoping for appetizers from everyone. One sis-in-law brought scallops wrapped in bacon for T'giving, so I'm hoping to make those myself. My younger son does a killer queso dip, so I'll ask for his recipe - since he and my daughter-in-law won't be here . My other daughter-in-law has started bringing cheesecake to family gatherings, so she'll probably get stuck bringing that again! (it's such a hit!)

For breakfast I'll make a German pancake and an egg/bacon/potato casserole.
For dinner I'm thinking we'll just grill some steaks.

Wow, I didn't realize people did so many different things.

We've been doing sort of non-traditional for years and just haven't looked back. It's actually kind of fun manning the grill as the snow falls . Last year we smoked a brisket (my first attempt) and it was a big hit.

We have a great big breakfast and then snack on cakes, pies, cookies etc. When we are really ready we have barbeque (sp). We get several pounds and mouth watering cole slaw from a GREAT local place. Since Thanksgiving was just a month ago we just aren't ready for turkey and all the fixins just yet!!!

christmas is the one holiday i don't cook.

we keep it very simple for the 5 of us that day.



i do a run to the Burger King drive thru around 9ish that morning.
buy the breakfast sandwiches and cinnamon rolls for all of us which we chow down at home.

around 3ish that afternoon, a second run thru the Burger King drive thru for whoppers.


have been doing this the last 20 years.
why change a tradition.........

There are NO fast food places open around us besides Dunkin Donuts on Christmas. Many times I'd be driving home from my aunt's house when I was younger just searching for somewhere to grab food!

Although, maybe it's different now, haven't looked in a while.

i'm lucky.

our BK is open 23 hours a day, including holidays.
only the drive thru is open on holidays, not the inside dining.

mcdonalds, wendys, culvers and kfc in our town are closed on christmas.

I'm thinking of making a London Broil with a lot of side dishes. I always make a lot of "breads" such as banana bread and cranberry bread and so on.

DDIL is hosting this year and her family is coming from CA and PA. They decided to do tacos Not really happy about it, but since I don't have to cook, I can deal.
Deep fried tacos at that with flour tortillas. Hopefully they will have corn tortillas also since DS is gluten free.

We host Christmas every year and every other year we do tacos. It's SO easy, so good, and everyone loves it! (Plus, feeding 30 people...a lot cheaper!!)

for eve, we used to do a pasta dinner, but something prevented that last year and DH ended up making a run to KFC. Now the boys and DH want THAT to be our eve tradition. So, it just might be.

day = we host. This year I believe will be shredded turkey sandwiches, cheesy potatoes, veggies, deviled eggs, pasta salads, green salads, and then whatever anyone else brings...usually appetizers, beans, desserts, etc.

I am hosting my husband's side of the family at our house on Christmas Eve this year (our turn). We are providing the honey baked ham, dessert and drinks. My sisters in law and my husband's parents are each bringing two sides and our niece is bringing bread and juice boxes for the kiddos. On Christmas morning, we go to my mom's house for a late morning brunch which usually consists of breakfast casserole, hash browns, ham biscuits, fruit salad, cinnamon rolls and muffins. For dinner Christmas night, we will probably just have ham sandwiches with leftover ham from the night before.

My parents and sister are coming over from England and renting a house, so they're doing Christmas this year. It will still be an English-style Christmas: we're having goose with pears, a beef wellington, chestnut stuffing, roast potatoes, pigs in blankets, braised red cabbage, roasted parsnips, chocolate yule log, Christmas pudding and mince pies.

I've decided to put off trying to lose any baby weight until after the holidays!
