little kids friendly itinerary?

Hi Everyone!

So its going to be hard to top our previous cruise. 5 night DD at CC last summer on the Dream. It was Awesome!!!!!

we are looking to go in summer 2014. i know the dates/itinerary have not been released yet but I'm trying to be ready to book since I'm looking at an option that seems to be offered every year

7 night eastern vs 7 night western??
want to leave out of PC

im leaning toward eastern because of the stop at CC

im concerned about port activities for my kids ages 8 and 4

any thought or other suggestions would be appreciated!!

You're talking about 7 nights on the Fantasy, right? The western caribbean itinerary also stops at CC.

Western (itinerary b I think) has only two sea days and four ports instead of three. Castaway Cay, Cozumel, Costa Maya, and I forget the other one. The itinerary tab on the DCL site will give you a map and the list when you "search for a cruise"

The person you spoke to on the phone must be having a Thanksgiving hangover.

We did the Fantasy western last month and had a great time at Castaway Cay. It also includes Grand Cayman, Cozumel, and Costa Maya.

All currently available Fantasy sailings include a stop at Castaway Cay. Some of the cruises on the Magic and Wonder going out of places other than Port Canaveral do not.

There is no such thing as a DCL cruise that is not kid friendly. We prefer Eastern, but Grand Cayman is one of our favorite ports (and Cozumel is one of our least favorite). If they have special cruises that go to St. Croix or Tortola, these are great ports also.

haha

maybe!!

so how were the ports? and the beaches ?

I would only book an excursion through DCL

I wouldn't consider renting a car because of the booster seat issue
Im a nervous nelly, and travel conservatively when it comes to my kids

thats one of the reasons we LOVE CC
so easy clean safe and fun
stress free for Mama!

I was booked previously an the Fantasy on a western and each port had a beach excursion that I was going to do. One had a turtle farm that I thought would be good too. My son is 5. DCL will always have kid friendly excursion options. I wouldn't worry at all.

I just took my son on a cruise that had 8 sea days. Sea days are the best. Although he loves the beach he also loved the ship. He loved the pools, kids clubs and all of the things to to. By our last night he still wasn't ready to go home. Even if you pick the Eastern your kids will still have a blast. I prefer more sea days to less because it gives my son time to relax on the ship and have fun.

I just read a great thread, I think it was toddlers and car seats, they had great suggestions for how to make sure you can get around safely with younger kids!

I'm booked for the Western on the Fantasy in February, there are a lot of great excursions! I've been to Grand Cayman and Cozumel before. Loved Grand Cayman, planning to do something like a dolphin excursion in Cozumel with DD. There were some options for younger kids, I think ages 3-9 only, which might be easier if you are nervous.

Happy planning!

I have 2 dds, and we have done both the Eastern and Western itineraries. They preferred the Western, mainly because of Grand Cayman. We did the "Island tour with Stingrays" through DCL, and they LOVED it! We toured the sea turtle farm, where the girls were handed little turtles to hold. Then, we went out to the Stingray Sandbar where they interacted with the stingrays. They LOVED it!!! (Even though my oldest was a little apprehensive).
They were 7 and 10 when we did this, and the 7 year old wanted to be the FIRST one in the water with the stingrays! lol
On that same cruise, we did Dolphinaris in Cozumel, and swam with dolphins. It really doesn't get much better than all that if you are a little girl!
Ask me any questions!

scrapbook thanks for the info! I will definitely look into those 2 excursions. Did you just stay on the ship in Costa maya?
I would be ok with doing that

For the dolphin swim, how did it work
My DD will be 9, she is very timid, and not a great swimmer.
was it just an interaction or a full on swim!!

How were you guys transported for the excursions?

What about the island tour, any details would be greatly appreciated!

I am hoping that DCL puts out another itinerary with 2 stops at CC
I would prefer that over everything!!

what about really littles??

I'm doing the fantasy trip 1/19/13 stopping at grand cayman, cozumal, costa maya, and CC. ANy suggestions for excursions with a 2 and a 4 would be great. My little one THINKS she can do whatever her sister does and would not be too happy to sit on the sidelines while big sis swam with dolphins, for example. Happy to do a beach day in a port if there isn't something more interesting/ appropriate but don't want to do beach day in EVERY port.

Help! this is my first time cruising with little kids- all of the excursions I've loved with DH are tossed out the window since the little guys can't really snorkel or drink.
