Last Thanksgiving with my soon to be ExHusbands family
Wish me luck. We've filed, and I'm moving out slowly but I was specifically asked by my mother in law to come to dinner. She and my brother in law both have cancer so I wasn't about to say no. I'm sure it's going to be very difficult- 25 years of history.

I'm sorry for what you're going through. It is very kind of you to go to dinner with them. And, just because you and your husband are divorcing doesn't mean you have to "divorce" your in-laws too. You said you have a 25-year history, that is a long time and if you've always been fond of your in-laws there is no reason that you have to stop seeing them.
Our DS has two ex-wives and we are still on friendly terms with the first one (the mother of two of our grandchildren). The other one completely cut ties with us when she and DS divorced. I've always felt sad about that. They were only married 3 years, but we were fond of her and her kids. I do hope you can have a nice Thanksgiving with your in-laws, even with the pending divorce. |

My mother and father divorced when I was young, even after my father passed away, my mother went to Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner at my paternal grandparent's home. It was never really awkward that I can recall, it was just part of being family.
