It is hard, but I understand your dilemma. Maybe take what you would do for one cruise (or maybe a little more) and split it between the cruises.

That sounds like a good idea . I am Not very imaginative, but was quite pleased with the fish extender gifts I came up with last year in the med, so I am kind of hoping that if there is no one on board that was with me last year then I might do the same thing this year - in which case that will at least be less stressful for me - if not less to carry in my luggage!!

No problem : Damian's idea is a good idea- that way you can take part in both. I'm with Lucas- it's just part of the cruise!! :D

From what i've read on the DIsboards, the Barcelona cruises have been quite lucky and you haven't had to get off of the boat - they post instructions the night before to your stateroom, but I know that last year it was only a case of going to guest services to get a new room key etc. Very excited about that day - hoping for a really relaxing one!

Hi all again! I have been looking at excursions (big surprise ) and While I love the fact that we have a super, experienced Rome tour guide on board who is willing for us to tag along and pick his wonderful brain... I am going to Rome for the first time so I want to see all the really TOURISTY stuff (please don't hate me) Thing is, I think I found the ideal 'private tour guide' who is highly recommended on this board. It is significantly less expensive for the guide to pick you up at the train station in Rome rather than drive from Civi. So...

I was wondering if there was a family of three willing to share the tour with me and my family? We don't bite and we 'might' bring baklava PM me

Hiya I am still actively looking at our excursions too!!

We were thinking of catching the train in and then just doing some of the touristy stuff (last year we did a private tour with a group of Dissers/Dibbers and it was great, but I feel as though we have 'done' the vatican now and will only want to go back and potter around for the day).

We would have been interested in joining you, but we are a party of four

I am debating whether to book a private tour too - but a 'make your own' version as we would prefer to redo all of the other touristy stuff except the Vatican (Colliseum, Pantheon, Trevi, Spanish Steps & then rather than go off to the Vatican which most tours seem to do, we will ask for some free time to grab lunch/ice cream and potter around the Piazzas before returning to the ship).

I know the train would be cheapest, but it is such a long way into Rome and I am worried I will get stressed about missing/delayed trains - On our last cruise there was an accident on the line to Monte Carlo and we never got there - that just stopped us going sightseeing, so it didn't affect us getting back to the Ship or anything, but it has made me a bit nervous about being stuck in a strange city - especially one so far from the port.

Thanks Debbie- although we haven't made any plans yet- we will be just winging it ourselves in each port. My partner is not as sociable as me- and I wouldn't want to inflict him on anyone else!!

I will be leaving this thread.

Its not sad news though - have finally got everything sorted, and am booked on the two week transatlantic in May. Everything confirmed last night and flights already booked - was an expensive evening!!

Have a fabulous cruise, and look forward to reading trip reports all about it.
