That's not an accurate recollection of his words. He didn't say Starbucks was the issue. He said the location was. He specifically said that he disn't care if Starbucks was in the park, just not where the MSB is.

Not at all, at least when I was there this past summer. I took many photos.

But he also said he wouldn't mind if it stayed the Main Street Bakery and just added Starbucks coffee and that is exactly what is happening. At no time, ever, was Starbucks putting an actual Starbucks location in and taking the MSB out. Even if it changed names, which I believe isn't the case, it would still be a Disney bakery with the addition of Starbucks goods.

The first important quote from the original press release back in April:

Quote:
The Starbucks locations inside our parks will be designed to fit the theme of their surroundings.
Which of course means the location will still be themed to turn of the 20th century small town America. I found this quote from a Disney press release that reiterates exactly that:

Quote:
Both locations will be designed to fit the theme of their surroundings. At Magic Kingdom Park, for example, cast members will wear a costume consistent with the early 20th century look and feel of Main Street, U.S.A. At Future World in Epcot, the new Starbucks location and cast member costumes will be designed to match the park’s futuristic theme.
The other important quote from the article is:

Quote:
The café will serve Starbucks items, including coffee and espresso beverages, Frappuccino® blended beverages, and signature breakfast sandwiches and pastries. Guests also will have their choice of Disney favorites, including signature sandwiches and other items, as well as delicious desserts and sweet treats.
So, the location will have not only things from Starbucks but will still have Disney baked goods.

These aren't changes from the original plan, this has always been the plan. It is true that they can screw up the theming or layout but it is factually not true that Disney is replacing the Main Street Bakery with a Starbucks location. They are refurbishing the Main Street Bakery to include Starbucks items along with the standard Disney baked goods. As with all refurbishments some things will come and some will go but that's the way of the world.

To be honest I'd rather a small, local coffee roaster was going in there but there is just no way a local roaster would have the co-branding or economy of scale clout that Starbucks has. If people want to be up in arms about it go ahead but be up in arms about what is actually happening, not what was never going to happen in the first place.

I don't drink coffee (unless I have a migraine), so I don't have an opinion about Starbucks as a coffee provider, but I would have preferred that Market House at Disneyland be echoed at Magic Kingdom. I love the cinnamon tea latte and I understand the coffee served there is an exclusive Disney blend.

I know that's what he meant but don't forget in Disneyland you have Coca Cola Corner, should they get rid of that because it's a slippery slope too?

Walt Disney World just posted about the Starbucks on their FB page 2 hours ago and already there are a few thousand replies. Skimmed through some of them, only saw a couple that were happy about it.

I just saw it on my fbk wall too and commented. I just said "dislike...read the petition". The large majority of the posts are against it based on the commercialization aspect. Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with them serving good coffee (finally) but no way does it need to be taking the place of the bakery.

How many times does it have to be said that Starbucks is not replacing the bakery, but that Starbucks products are going to be sold in the bakery? Read post #63.

Umm, if we assume that all of the 3,388 (at current posting) are against this (and some aren't), how do we regard the 20,654 who "liked" the Facebook post?

Good morning to you, too!
A Starbucks serving "treats from the bakery" is not the same as the Bakery (AS IT IS) serving Starbucks. I know what goes into their (Starbucks) vendor deals and lease agreements. It will NOT be the bakery as we know it. It will be a Starbucks that also sells items previously sold at the bakery. There is a significant difference. IMHO.

I'm not assuming anything. I'm telling you what the comments were when I looked at it. Sorry that you were offended by my input. Guess I didn't realize the boards were so one sided and snarky these days.

You said " large majority of the posts are against it based on the commercialization aspect." It may be true that most "posts" were against it (though the posts I read lacked a common theme, or rationality). I merely pointed out that the "likes" out numered the posts by by over 5 to 1. I don't think my post was "snarky" at all. It wasn't my point.

I thought I was asking a legitimate question as this debate has degenerated into a gross unreality, especially among the folks who base their decision on the "commercialization" of Main Street. http://www.disboards.com/showpost.ph...7&postcount=45

This is not necessarily the case.

Here's the official description from Disney itself:

Quote:
At Magic Kingdom Park, Main Street Bakery will close for refurbishment in January 2013 and reopen as a Starbucks location in early summer. At Epcot, Fountain View will close in March 2013 and reopen as a Starbucks location in midsummer.
The bakery will close and reopen as a Starbucks. Therefore, the bakery is being replaced by a Starbucks.

Because of the hype and subsequent backlash, Disney is now trying to clean up its ambiguous language in its original press releases. Here's the latest commentary from the company:

Quote:
Here’s some additional information about our Walt Disney World Resort Starbucks locations. The Main Street Bakery will keep its name and theming when it reopens in early summer. It’ll also continue to serve Disney favorites like cookies, brownies and seasonal cupcakes, in addition to Starbucks signature beverages and other items. And for those of you who asked in comments, the cinnamon rolls are available at Gaston’s Tavern in New Fantasyland, and the ice cream sandwiches are available at Plaza Ice Cream Parlor on Main Street, U.S.A.
The Starbucks in California, as noted and seen here, is labeled by signage that calls it "Starbucks" and "The Fiddler, Fifer, & Practical Cafe." The menu is the official Starbucks menu with a few "Disney-made" items like made-off-site mass produced Mickey head cookies, a few cupcakes, etc. Other items were signature Starbucks bakery items. Yes, it doesn't look like your ordinary down-the-street Starbucks cafe in terms of theming; employees have received Disney training, but are employed by Starbucks.

The Starbucks that will be in MK is going to be called "Main Street Bakery," according to the most recent press release. However, I highly doubt that there won't also be a Starbucks sign there. I can't see them not advertising Starbucks products by not having one. Otherwise, how will guests know? I can't see Starbucks not requiring some type of signage out front.

In terms of food items being sold at the Starbucks MS Bakery, let's look at what Disney has said. A large amount of guest complaints focused on the cinnamon rolls. Disney said they'll have them at Gaston's Tavern. We still don't know if they will use the same recipe or not so it could be a more generic version or the one from MSB. The ice cream sandwiches will now be sold at the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor. When you look at this logistically, that's the two main items the bakery is known for. If they're really going to have "Disney favorites" sold at the new Starbucks MS Bakery, why are they moving them to elsewhere in the park?

The way I see it, the Starbucks MS Bakery will open with two signs - Starbucks and MS Bakery - have the complete Starbucks menu, as done in DCA, and sell Mickey head cookies and maybe a Disney cupcake or two. The rest of the menu will be Starbucks' baked items and sandwiches. While this is only my opinion, it's based on what has already happened in DCA and Disney's press releases. The theming will be similar to what it is now, but updated. Employees will receive Disney training, but like those in DCA, will be employed by Starbucks. Anything different would surprise me greatly.
