2012 - OLYMPIC FREE TOUR - Day 9 - Typhoon Lagoon - 50's Prime Time Cafe

Day 9 – Typhoon Lagoon – 50’s Prime Time Café

We had previously arranged to visit Typhoon Lagoon with Martin’s family, meeting up outside the rooms at 8:30 and since we had plenty of time to spare, Sue and I drove to ‘Goods To Go’ to get some coffee, blueberry muffins and a cherry Danish. We returned back to our room, ate our breakfasts and then all met outside. Five minutes later we were in the parking lot of Typhoon Lagoon and after passing through the turnstiles, we had a group photograph taken.



It was still only 8:50 as we joined the waiting queue on the bridge. Rope drop commenced and we made our way to our usual location near to the shoreline and swiftly arranged our sunbeds. We then made a beeline to Crush n Gusher and quickly rode all three tubes. It was noticeable that the three man tubes were no longer available, which was a shame since its nice to ride as a family, however this did not spoil the enjoyment. Next up was Storm Slides, quickly followed by Humunga Kowabunga and then onto Gang Plank Falls.







On exiting the ride, we decided to grab a tube and ride on Castaway Creek back to our loungers.





We chilled for a while and shortly after 11:00, we made our way to Leaning Palms for some lunch.

Nigel: Chilli Dog with Fries – Fruit Cup – Sprite.
Sue: Hot Dog with Fries – Fruit Cup – Orange Juice.
Emma: Hot Dog with Fries – Cheesecake – Diet Coke.



We sat in the nearby dining area and were soon joined by a very friendly squirrel, who was more than happy to share some of our fries.





After lunch, we returned back to the loungers for a rest, after grabbing a few photos with Stitch.





We then made our way into the surf pool to battle against the wave machine. It is amazing how tiring this can be, swimming towards the front and then riding the wave back.









It was then time for a few laps of Castaway Creek, where it was quite easy to snooze before being shocked awake by the ice-cold waterfall!







Returning back to the loungers, I had a nap whilst the others returned to the wave pool, however the approaching dark clouds was a signal for the pool to be cleared just in time before the heavy rainfall. At that, we decided to call it a day and slowly drifted out of the park, making our way back to OKW.

I spent the next hour browsing the internet on my iPad, after which we all showered and changed in preparation for tonight’s ADR at 50’s Prime Time Café.



We left OKW and made the short drive to Hollywood Studios, arriving at 17:15 in Stage 45 parking lot. Luckily, we managed to park near the end of a line just in time to catch a departing tram.



Our ADR was at 17:50 and after checking in, had around 10 minutes wait before being shown to our table.





Our server tonight was cousin Cooper and boy did he have plenty to say!



Whilst browsing the menu, we were recognised by Cornish Pixie (Tracy), Goofygaz (Gary) and daughters Amy and Ellie, who were also dining here.

Nigel: Pot Roast – Strawberry Sundae – Diet Coke.
Sue: Pot Roast – Dad’s Brownie Sundae – Diet Coke.
Emma: Pot Roast – Strawberry Sundae – Diet Coke.







The food was excellent but I still felt a little hungry when I left, so maybe they could possibly increase the portion size next time. In between courses, I managed to have a chat with Cornish Pixie at their table and catch up with their vacation so far.



As we left the restaurant, we made our way over to Tower of Terror to get fast passes for later, then decided to have a stroll around the park taking photographs.









On our way back to TOT, we could see that the 21:00 Fantasmic! Show was full to capacity and so decided, after exiting TOT, we would head back to OKW.



Returning home, it wasn’t long before we all called it a day around 22:00.

Thanks! It was very tame, but kept getting chased away by the flocks of waiting birds

I took the same photo last year but decided it would be better with a wider angle lens and this was the result

It is a different experience every time. On our three visits we have had good servers.

I just can't believe how tall (and gorgeous!) Emma is now! I see you got some waterpark photopass shots. You know we have been to a water park every year and the last time we saw photopass photographers at a waterpark was at BB in 2009 at Easter. Are they there seasonally?

I love the one at DHS of the ship. Did you use a UWA lens for that? Oddly you have a few posted there that are almost identical to ones I took this trip. We must have good taste in photo subjects lol.

Emma is taller than both me and Sue now, but as you are well aware, they will always be our babies!
I find the waterpark photopass photographers are a bit hit and miss, with regard to if we see any. Quite a few trips over the years have resulted in no show.
The ship was took on my Canon 10-22 lens.
If look carefully on the floor at a lot of these popular photo spots, you will see 3 dimples in the concrete where we all place our tripods!

I have tried using a different focal length to give a new slant on some standard photos.
Next year I may take along an old 500mm mirror lens that I have. At least it will be useful on AK safari

Yeah, you're right about our kids always being our babies. I was unprepared for the little girl who accompanied me over the previous 4 trips suddenly being a teen in training on this one though!

I am definitely going wide with that ship photo next year. I completely agree with you about using different lenses for a different perspective. I actually shot the Boo To You parade one night with my 11-16mm wide angle - something I would never have thought of doing but I mounted that lens at the start of the evening and made a decision that I would not change lenses for anything to force myself to take pics differently. One afternoon at Epcot no fewer than 3 photopass photographers asked in varying degrees of tact, why I had come to a park with a fixed focus lens (I'd mounted my 50mm 1.8 that day) I told them that a different lens makes you take different photos and that they were already taking the shots that I wanted as standard so it made no sense to duplicate. They all seemed to accept my response graciously

I am in the process of creating my first photo book using BonusPrint software. I have been adding a text review of each day together with the photographs. My trippie is coming in handy, as I have being doing quite a lot of cut and paste from this into the photo book.
I also managed to get a decent Groupon deal for another photo book offer. This expires in Jan 2013, so I will probably use 2011 trippie for this one
