Folks, it's important to distinguish between things that can happen and things that are likely to happen. Is it possible that Disney may bump you to another resort? Yes. Is it likely? Absolutely not. Is it something you need to lose sleep over? Nope. Keep in mind that thousands of people check into Disney resorts every single day of the year. Every day. Thousands. Are there huge masses of people being downgraded, or bumped to another resort every day? Nope. That's just not the case. The things we're talking about in this thread are unusual events. They're not the normal guest experience. The very great majority of guests will get exactly the room category that they booked, in the resort that they booked. It is something that is very rare, even though it seems like it happens all the time based on the number of posts on the DIS by people who received upgrades.

I'm reading AOA Mermaid guests are being upgraded to 1 bedroom villas. That's a leap from value to deluxe! SSR and OKW look amazing from the pictures I've seen. That whirlpool tub alone is enough to switch me over. I would snatch that up immediately! However, if it's a resort that just does not appeal to you, I can understand not wanting to accept it.

Disney has so many choices. I'm sure if anyone is "unfortunate" enough to receive an upgrade, you can negotiate a bit. A few years back, we were given an upgrade to AKL from CBR. I have visited this resort for breakfast and it does not appeal to me or my wife AT ALL. We told the CM we were disappointed because we were looking forward to a beach theme. We asked if the Beach Club was available and were told that it was. Upgrade to Beach Club granted! It always pays to ask questions when you're in this position. The worst thing that can happen is that they could tell you "no".

3 or 4 years ago we were booked at Pop and got an email offering to upgrade us to SSR or OKW. We decided on OKW. It just wasn't our cup of tea. We had a one bedroom suite that was over 900 sq ft. It was beautiful! But the grounds are so spread out and so far away from everything. And we missed having a food court. We usually stay at POFQ, but had wanted to try Pop just because we hadn't done a value in a long time and wanted to check it out. It didn't ruin our vacation, but we were sorry we switched.

another point.. the kitchen in the 1 bedroom at SSR doesn't do you much good if you didn't know about it ahead of time and have nothing to cook!
OR, you are flying down, and therefor not bringing stuff to cook. OR, you really don't want to cook on vacation. we have friends whoare owners at OKW, and have had the oppotunity to use their points for that resort or SSR. to us, they just look too much like apt complexes. we live in a townhouse complex and I agree with others, not enough like a vacation. I don't want a home away from home.
