Tent camping...what do I request??
I need some help with location. We will not be renting a golf cart this trip. I need to be close to a bathhouse and transportation. We will have 2 large tents. We will be there Nov. 25 to 30th. I am bringing fans and heaters
I checked these options on the ressies but can I request a specific location or loop?

Yes, you can request a specific loop, or site #, or just something like "close to ________". Just call them by phone and tell them what you want. What type site did you reserve? Partial, full, preferred, or premium? That makes a big difference. If you reserved partial, that puts you in either 1500 or 2000 loop. I have never been in either, but have read that the 2000 loop sites are larger. These loops are further from the trading posts and marina than some of the other types of sites. That might make a difference as you said no golf cart. I personally like 100, 200, 400, 800, 900. They are close to the trading posts, but are either preferred or premium.

We are in a partial site. We will have 2 large tents:/ Last time we were there I wrote down several sites that I thought were great...well I can't find them anywhere and never new that I could actually have a request. Last time we did have 2 large tents as well but 1 was a screened room. We r leaving that this time so that the teenagers can have their own sleeping space.

So, you need a good partial site. Unfortunately I can not help there. I did find something that might help you. Go to YouTube. In the search box put "DFW LOOP". There are videos of most loops. You might be able to see a site you like.

There's an app in the google play store that shows you photos of the Fort sites in the various loops and has site dimensions and all of that....so helpful! If you do a google search on Fort Wilderness Android app, it should come up. I keep using it to look around the 900 loop so I can figure out what sites to request for our upcoming trip!

Specific site requests have a much lower success rate than the more general loop requests because when the Fort goes to assign sites to reservations before you arrive, it can only assign it if it is vacant that day. So during slow times when the Fort is not as full you have a better chance of hitting a specific site. During busy periods (holidays, spring break times, etc) it's unlikely to work for you.
Mouse2mouse, you're coming in on the Sunday after Thanksgiving (11/25) which will have a LOT of people checking out that day. If you have two tents and need a big coquina pad, you should ask for a loop 2000 site. Those pads are generally bigger than loop 1500 sites. Loop 2000 also has 2 comfort stations - one of which backs up to a bus stop that serves 2000. Enjoy! ![]() Bama ED

Thanks for input. I downloaded the app for my droid...it is amazing. We just put up our tents so we could get a good idea of space and also to re water proof. I figured out that it was the 2000 loop we stayed in before. With the research on you tube and the Ft. Wilderness app we are able to narrow down search. We are going to have a blast no matter where we land
Now to get my Christmas decor together

Off topic...
I'm a big tent camper here in NH but I'm curious... Don't you worry about snakes getting inside your tent in Florida? |

We have camped in the 1500 loop and enjoyed the location and easy walk to the pool and camp store. We were toward the end of the loop, further from the bathhouse but was not all all a long walk and well lit for night.
We were glad to be further from the road when the bus was running late into the night. The loops were not really that big so being at the end was actually nice. |

I am a 5th-generation native Floridian and have camped for over 60 years and never had a snake in my tent. Seriously, they will avoid noise or activity and prefer the woods to civilization. Now during serious drought times, they get a bit braver, but still avoid people when possible. |
