Atlantis casino question

We're trying to decided on some excursions and my mil always enjoys going to a casino for a little bit. So, she's thinking if doing the discover Atlantis excursion and then visiting the casino. First, is the basic discover Atlantis tour (without the aquaventure) worth it? Can she do this on her own without doing the dcl excursion? Secondly, she is wondering how the slots and games are. I am not much of a gambler, so forgive my lack or terminology here, but, are there only high dollar slots there? Are there penny and nickle slots or do you have to bet a dollar for everything? Some casino's up here, you can go there with $50 and have a fun time for a while. What's the Atlantis casino like?

My family was just there last week. We took a cab ride over to the casino. We saw all different dollar amounts of slots. One cent, two cent, five cent, etc. etc. They aren't all in the same area either they are spread all over. As for if they are any good...no idea lol All 3 of us put in 20 bucks and never were ahead. Also, since we were wondering before we went, there is no dress code to get in the casino. We went in shorts and tank top.s

DH DS (2 1/2) and I took the water taxi over to Atlantis while on our Dream cruise in Dec. 2011. Tour guide was fun and it was a pretty cheap ride. DH played a little bit in the casino while DS and I walked around. There were cheap and hi-roller machines and tables in the casino. It is really beautiful on the grounds of Atlantis and we got some fantastic pics! Atlantis sells their own tour passes but we did not do that-just explored the free areas on our own. Didn't do the waterslides and stuff because DS was too young anyway. We took a cab back to Nassau-plenty of taxi stands on Atlantis property and then we walked around the shops of Nassau for a little bit before returning to the ship. I guess it depends on what all you want to experience @ Atlantis- go to their website there is good info on there about their own tours. Also read some on these boards that the Comfort Inn next door does a pass for Atlantis as well-lots of people did that routine.

Enjoy

Atlantis on your own

We took the water taxi over. They gave us direction to walk the rest of the way to Atlantis once we got to Paradise Island. If MIL is going on her own, a regular taxi would probably be better. The casino and resort is very Las Vegas strip like. We had DD1 with us, so we weren't allowed near the machines, but I can also confirm they have all denominations that you would see in a large casino. Also lots of high end shopping boutiques.

We walked around and also paid for admission to 'Discover Atlantis' on our own which included the main Aquarium "The Dig" and other smaller aquariums around the property. When we went the price of the tour was $38 per adult. Didn't save too much over booking with DCL, but we took the water taxi which added an element of fun and adventure. That also led us to be stuck in a nasty storm, under a bridge for a while. We paid for round trip tickets for the water taxi. I don't recommend doing that. Buy one way tickets so you can decide how to return to the port.

Thanks guys. She was excited to find out about the machine in the casino and also amazed at how I could go out on the internet and find that out so quickly. Yes, the Disboards are a well of information, even about casino's in the Bahamas.

I was thinking about it last night and, although *we* might do something "on our own" in Nassau. I think I will steer them towards a dcl excursion. That way, they can't blame getting lost, missing the ship and the ship leaving without them on me. It really isn't worth the few extra bucks saved to have that worry. Plus, I don't need to ruin my first day of a cruise worried about them.

Thanks again for your help.

Agree!

I saved so little, and the DCL excursion has buses that run back and forth most of the afternoon. It probably would have been a lot more convenient! Especially with the rain we encountered. This is one of the few excursions I would say do it through DCL, since they let you return when you want, rather than forcing the amount of time you can spend.

It was still fun to do ourselves. We got to see more of the local area by taking the water taxi. I am type to research, study maps, and etc, so I was comfortable walking through town on our own. Don't think I could say the same about my MIL.

DH and I found the Discover Atlantis tour quite tiring. We figure we walked around a mile during the tour, and DH was not happy about it in the heat.

As to the casino, we aren't used to casinos where smoking is allowed, so we found conditions in the casino difficult. We left after we 'spent' $50 as a result.

One thing you should watch, if you decide to eat at Atlantis, is the cost of drinks. We ate at one of the casual restaurants adjacent to the casino where DH ordered a double and it cost $26! The vodka used was nothing special either. If you must order a beverage, order it off the drinks menu where the prices are clearly shown, or get a soda.

Generally speaking, we found the experience at Atlantis quite disappointing. We have done it once, never again.
