Mickeys Backyard BBQ Dinner Show, good or bad?

We are traveling to Disney this february or march and trying to get some dinner reservations together, along with the mass amount of other details figured out. Mickeys Backyard BBQ doesn't open until March... is it a good option or something not worth changing dates for?

We just did this on October the 18th. It is under an "open shelter" with long "picnic" type seating. Food was not wonderful and it was chaotic! The characters don't come to your table. We left early and basically knew right after we arrived, we wouldn't do it again. It was also the only meal we had to pay upfront when I reserved it, not to mention the most expensive character meal also.

I think it all depends on what you are looking for. DInner isn't very good. Although there is unlimited Mickey ice cream bars. For young kids I think its great, they don't have to sit in a chair for the show, the characters are out and dancing mosst of the time. There is a trick rope guy who is great. I suggesst getting there early to line up, seats ar first come. Characters do come out while you are waiting for show to open, with games and free drinks. I say do it once and determine for yourself!

Our Ratings of Mickey's BBQ: (rev 1/5/12)
. . . food price value: D
. . . food quality: C
. . . food quantity per serving: A
. . . food prep speed: B
. . . food selection: C
. . . seating quantity: C
. . . seating comfort: D
. . . eatery atmosphere: C
. . . eatery convenience: C
. . . staff friendliness: B
. . . staff attentiveness: B
. . . character interaction: C

NOTE: Tables are long picnic tables of about 40 people per
table, so you sit with other families. No reserved seating, so
the "mad dash" for seats can be interesting. There is no front
row", just the end of the picnic tables. Folks start lining up
about 1-hr prior to the 5:30pm seating. Also, characters are
there for dancing and front interaction, and *usually* do not
go thru tables, so sometimes there is a long line trying to get
to the charcters. It should also be noted that the sides are
open to the weather. They put up some plastic wind diverters,
but it does get hot or cold.

I agree with everyone's comments. Food is not that good and it was very chaotic. We met our friends there for dinner after a long day in the parks. We couldn't believed we wasted two dining credits on burgers and a lousy show. So loud, so unorganized-- my kids didn't even like it. We all left before it was over. I am usually not critical of restaurants- but this was just bad. I do want to try Hoop one of these trips.

We did this last August and agree with pp comments about not very good food and very chaotic. The dancing with the characters us a cute idea, but trying to keep track of your child, especially the young ones is really stressful. We lucked into a photo op with Mickey & Minnie outside the tent during a bathroom break. No idea they'd be out there. It was very rushed, but at least we got a pic.

There was a long line when we arrived 45 minutes early. The seating wad orderly though, when you got to the front of the line, you were told where to sit. We had the worst seats in a very back corner before closer tables were filled, which annoyed me. But, we were also next to the open bar (wine & beer only), so that made up for it. If there was anywhere in Disney where I needed alcohol, this was it lol.

I wouldn't recommend it, but I also don't think it's,so horrible to not give it a try once. I definitely wouldn't change any plans for it though.
