Edge in Port

I know the kids clubs used to be closed when the ship is in port, but does anyone know if the Edge will be open? My daughter is not interested in any of the shore excursions in San Juan and we were considering leaving her on board. She is 12 and an experienced cruiser. Does Disney have a policy on this? I'm a little nervous. Any thoughts?

On the DCL ships, the programming only closes when the ship is on Castaway Cay, in which case it moves to the island. Since 1998, in other ports, the programming has been open.

DCL has no policy concerning a parent leaving a child on board while they enjoy an island. You should be aware that a young person in the Edge age group has the run of the ship. You cannot leave her IN the programming and expect DCL to be sure that she stays there. To participate in the Edge, she must be able to come and go as she chooses. They will not allow her to get off the ship, but beyond that she will be unrestricted.

FWIW, the old fort on San Juan is worth seeing and can be accomplished without a paid excursion.

Glad to know they are open! I knew she would be coming and going as she pleases. We have set ground rules for that. She thought the fort tour was so so and definitely didn't want to do the rum distillery. Is the fort within walking distance? Maybe we can do that and do the distillery later without her. At this age she really just wants to hang with friends.
