What would happen if required room adult doesn't show? (2 rooms)

Family of 5 - 2 adults 3 kids. Two connecting rooms booked with 1 adult, 1 child, and other with 1 adult, 2 children (ages 12 and 15). If one of the adults isn't able to make the cruise for whatever reason, would the 1 present adult and 3 kids just be moved to a single room? I'm not sure if the two booked rooms sleep 3 or 4 each. Anyone have any experience with this?

(This is just future pondering, not a known or closely upcoming circumstance)

We have sailed Carnival when my boys were 15, 11 and 9. We were able to have a separate room from them, they didn't even connect, just side by side.

We sailed in 2011 on DCL, we booked with an adult in each room but my boys sleep together, and their room was in a separate hall from us.

I know this does not help your situation. I wonder if your rooms connect will they let you have two rooms. Most of the rooms sleep 4 and with that you would save money.

I know you were speaking hypothetically, but how soon before your cruise are you going to know this? I would think you would lose a big portion of your deposit if it was within the penalty phase. Also, you probably wouldnt be able to move the kids because of life boat drills etc. I would think this wouldnt even be an issue because of the penalities you would incur.

While DCL doesn't really seem to "care" whether the adults sleep in 1 room and the kids in the other once you are onboard, I don't believe you can have a stateroom reserved without an adult's name nor do I believe the same adult can be listed on multiple rooms. Since you have 2 connecting rooms booked, I don't think there would be a problem (for life boat stations) to move all 4 remaining passengers into 1 room - assuming it will sleep 4. If both rooms only sleep 3, you might be at the mercy of finding another available room that would sleep 4.

If you are past the PIF date, you probably would not get a refund for the 2nd adult.

I'd really suggest you call DCL if you think there is any remote possibility of this occurring, so you'll know what you are facing.

If the adult is a no show, the lone kid will to be allowed to board. That reservation will be cancelled. The kid fare might be refundable but surely not the adult. If there is availability you might be able to move the kid to your stateroom or switch to one that accommodates four, again, if there is any available.

Ultimately, you should call and ask Disney.

Some lines let you have a 15 year old alone in a room if it is within a certain number of staterooms away.

If this is a last minute thing where you would lose the cruise fare anyways, I would try to do a name change and get a friend or relative to go and just pay for them.

You must have a person over 21 in a room with a person under 18. I wanted to be able to have my 18yo in a cabin with her 16yo sister. It was a no go.

A single adult travelling with 4 kids was unable to have connecting rooms with only one adult. Not sure what would happen if you showed up without the second adult. If the room you were in didn't sleep 4, the other kid might not be able to board.

You can do a name change on a reservation if you have an adult friend or relative who could go. Technically there must be an adult booked in each room; that adult must be over 21 if there are minors in the room. 2 18s can share a room, but if there is a person under 18, there must be an "over 21," not just a legal adult.

I honestly don't know what DCL would do in OP's example.

I'm sure they'd work with you, to try to accommodate the situation. It may cost some extra bucks, somehow, but I doubt they'd just send you off without trying to remedy the unfortunate situation.

Situation made me think of mom... "I'm not going!!", heard many times minutes prior to vacations!!

I would switch the 3rd kid now. You will have a room with an adult and 3 kids and a room with 1 adult. Isn't it less expensive to do this way anyway? Where everyone actually sleeps won't matter, but you won't have any concern about a child not allowed to board.

It would be much MORE expensive because the single adult will have to pay a single supplement of 200% the cruise fare.

It is far MORE expensive to do this. If you put an adult and a child in the room, the child will be charged an adult fare. However, if you put the child in the other room, the child would pay a child fare AND the adult solo would pay 200% of the "double occupancy" fare + one set of port taxes.

If this scenario happens, and the room with the one adult and two kids doesn't allow room to add the third child, or if that location doesn't have any more space according to the lifeboat standards, and there isn't another room that sleeps four available, you will not be allowed to board.
