If you are flying out of a local place, there is lots to do in Cocoa, just down from port Canaveral. Sight seeing, beaches, many places to eat. Or if you want to go a little farther there is many more beach towns (will live in one of them.) If Orlando, there are many things to do, just depends on how much you want to spend. Also drive time.

We have a 4:30 return flight. You can rent a car one way from PC to MCO for less than they Disney transfers. We are renting a car and we're planning on going to Lunch at Universal's City Walk.

USAirways flights don't leave until after 5:00 out of MCO to the west coast...we live in Arizona.....and we're usually so wiped out after cruising, we get a room for a half day at the MCO Hyatt and just chill. Have lunch, swim, check out the shops at the airport, take a nap. The time goes pretty quickly, and the Hyatt will handle your bags upon arrival, and then down to check in for your flight.

A day room at the Hyatt is right at $100 including taxes. This will allow you to sleep, shower, use the pool, or whatever.
We prefer usually to get a car which allows us to go somewhere for lunch. DD can use the internet (also available at the airport), go to Downtown Disney if we want, etc. Do remember that you'll want to be back at MCO at least 2 hours before your flight. |

We has a similar amount of time so did a one way rental from PC and went to universal drive so DS could have a great game of adventure golf followed by a lovely relaxed lunch a bit of shopping and a leisurely drive to the airport in loads of time for the flight. The rental was much cheaper than transfers and we had a great day!

If your family is the type that wants to be on the go and won't like resting, I would say go to DTD. It is a nice way to get in a little more Disney before you leave. BUT if they are the types that would like to relax (and you will be tired from getting up so early to leave the ship) I would say get a room at the Hyatt and rest up before your flight.
