Sail away will be a bit crazy, true. We usually skip the giant throng and hang out above the party where it's not so nuts, so I sometimes forget how it can get "down there", lol. There sure won't be a problem finding a meet spot, we barely will take up a corner of wherever we wind up! This cruise just might be the best kept secret on the DIS!!!

Also I must have been typing fast, my DD is only 2 (actually just turned this past saturday) proud daddy here So sorry about the mis type.

I'm really starting to get excited for this trip... which is alot for me to say cause I always annoy my wife by not being excited for trips until a day or two away from the trip.

Also busy thinking and planning the FE gifts.

You sound just like my husband . I always say things like... "Honey, why aren't excited for our trip I've plannned for spring 2027 and he is like because it is for spring 2027, years away

I love planning so always have all our trips figured out, maybe not that far in advance but at least a few years and he never gets excited until like right before

That's my DH in a nutshell. Me, I have the countdown on the calendar, mom and T are excited and asking questions on skype DAILY. DH? He wants me to quit talking about it until 2 days before we leave!

So...looks like our group has been getting a little more active, no thanks to me... We've been busy with preschool, visits from family and friends and a little trip to Orlando (no WDW, just WWHP for a day).

We will be driving down the day before the cruise. I still need to book a hotel, and am debating between staying at the port (with nothing to do nearby) or spending the night near DL. We live in the Bay Area, so the drive to LA is about 5 hrs, and we'd be getting there in the early afternoon, if all goes well. Maybe just stay in Anaheim and visit DTD in the afternoon, and head towards the port the next morning?

Also, I like the idea of participating in the FE, but still need to convince DH. Are the gifts per stateroom/couple/family or per person? I think it would be nice for DD3, since she loves getting 'mail' at home, too. She's so disappointed when the mailman doesn't bring her anything, lol.

Am off to read that article about the extra magic on our cruise - yay!

I hope you can talk your husband into joining up with us. Nice to see another one with a little one with us. We have a DD2 who loves to laugh and play. I have a couple of cute ideas for the younger ones on the trip so I hope you join in with us for the FE. I don't believe there is a set number of gifts for the FE... I know I'm planning on doing several small ones but the way it keeps adding up in my head I might just have to bring a suitcase for the FE, and a nice bottle to for DH to drink from. I know the trip is getting closer and closer and I'm looking forward to seeing everyone soon.

I asked DD what she thought about giving small gifts to other people on the cruise, and she thought that was 'great', but wanted to know if she would get one too

We haven't set any rules for this one, so it's whatever you want to do! DH and I usually do one "room" gift and something small for each person - but this time, with such a small group, I confess to being slightly carried away. My last FE was 17 rooms and 50+ people, so it has been way too easy to convince DH that we need __________ for the FE and it's only $____ which is so much cheaper than the last one! Don't worry, though, they're all small things, and easily packed. I hope everyone finds them useful and fun!

Just back from our CA coastal cruise on Sapphire Princess. It was a great cruise, with perfect weather every day!! Now that it's behind me, I hope I can concentrate on this cruise. It's only our second cruise on DCL, and we didn't participate in the FE last time. But, I really want to give it a try. Shouldn't be too complicated since we are small in number.

jtiggerb- Love the Tigger pirate logo. But didn't we already have someone in the group who spent quite a bit of time on a logo, and was making all of us door signs??? Or was that you? Obviously, I'm confused.

We are interested in the FE, we are first time cruisers so a little unsure of what it all entails, how to get involved, and what people typically give or spend. Do you know of anywhere i could look up a little more on the FE. What info do you need, their are 4 of us, my husband and I and our two kids 14 & 9.

I wasn't trying to offend anyone I was just throwing that out there... been working on different looks of it for several months now and just putting out there if anyone wanted to use it or enjoy it. So no it wasn't me who had put out an earlier one.

sorry have been so absent. my world fell apart for a few weeks, hopefully things will get back to normal soon. Am very much looking forward to this trip . Really must get cracking on my FE gifts I have fallen behind

I have to say I'm a little surprised about this since most levels had been there before. Anybody else come across this?

Welcome to the madness! There are TONS of threads all about FE, but the DIS search function...well, it doesn't function. I always suggest google - just put in "disboards fish extenders" and you'll get all the details you could ever want, all the suggestions you could ever need, and all the crafter's envy you can stomach! I'll just give you details on OUR FE, as each one is a bit different depending on the group.

First, you'll need a fish extender - the above search should net you how-to threads on making one, and where-to on buying one, if you're so inclined. Basically, you just need something to hang from your fish that people can put your gifts in! Then, you need to join your cruise meet group - THAT'S US! - and let the person in charge of the FE that you want to participate - THAT'S ME!

If you will be participating, I will need you to PM me your names, stateroom number, and children's ages, as well as if there is anything special we need to know - allergies and so on. Candy/snacks are popular gifts and we don't want any bad reactions!

As far as what to give and how much to spend, it's entirely up to you. Some people prefer to give one gift per family, others do one per person. Some people make their gifts, while some choose to buy them. Anything goes, as long as there's no agreement within the group to set other guidelines - which we haven't. Something from the giver's hometown, something to use on the cruise, something to eat (prepackaged and in compliance with DCL's rules, of course), wear, or take home...your imagination is the only limit! Searching for "FE gift ideas" (again, google, bing, yahoo - choose your search engine, but use one other than the one on the boards!) will get your mind flowing - but so will a trip to the dollar store! No need to break the bank - the idea is to have fun and EVERY gift is appreciated. Just having a surprise waiting for you is icing on the cruise cake!
