I bring this Sound Spa from Bed Bath and Beyond:

Which packs easily in a suitcase. It is small and efficient. I like the "Waterfall" sound.

Does the sound stay on all night?

Hi
I use an iPhone app called Whitenoise that I really love. It has a huge repertoire. You can turn off the cellphone part of your iPhone just by going into Settings and choosing airplane mode. You can also turn off the phone's ability to use any wireless connections under settings. Then your phone basically becomes an iPod. You can run all your apps, music etc.

Yes. You can set it to turn off after a set amount of time, or you can just turn it on and leave it on. We've used one every night for years and it is still working fine. I've used phone apps and they just aren't the same to me.

Sleep Mate

I have used a SLEEP MATE for over 10 years. I pack it and take it EVERYWHERE I go. I would travel without shoes before I would sleep without my sleep mate.

You can get it on Amazon. Its my best friend.

I have one in my room and one in my two boys room.

About to by one for my 20 year old. I'm tired of hearing the AC on when its 40 degrees out. LOL

I'm looking into the sound spa too. I have an app on my phone but it's way too quiet for me

I used a white noise app on my iPad for my children on our Wonder cruise in August. It worked out really well even though at home they are used to real machines and not apps.

Yep, Sleep Mate sound machines are the BEST for true white noise and not a recorded loopy sound. I got mine from the JC Penney catalog. I also like my 02 Cool portable plug-in/battery fan that folds up. Here are both:

I use the Simply Noise app. Check it out online first for free. It has white, pink, and brown noise. Who knew there was more than WHITE noise?! I personally like the brown noise. The white is too shrill. The brown reminds me of oceans or waterfalls. Enjoy!

Most cabins are verandahs - just open the door! what better white noise than the sound of the ocean. Combine this with the gentle rocking motion of the ship, and you'll be out like a light in no time.

Another option that works, turn the tv and watch vintage cartoons, or the endless clips of the cruise director...

I've needed white noise for over 20 years. The smallest fans I have seen are the ones used at nail salons. Don't forget an extension cord so you can get the fan as close to the bed as possible. Those little fans don't make much noise. Nice to know I am not alone!

This is the best sound machine! We have them in all bedrooms, and they are so peaceful! I agree, waterfall is a keeper! I also have the 'White Noise' free app on the iPhone too, just in case we forget the Sound Spa!

The machines look interesting!!

But do they have the sound of a fan?? That's what I really need. Waterfalls, T-storms, music, etc don't really do the trick--for me anyway.

And as an aside--do the room a/c or heaters have a continual run fan? Even that's enough for me...
