Solid Wood Dining Chairs?

We are shopping for a new set of dining room furniture for our in-kitchen eating area. We eat 98% of our meals here.

We found a set that we love, but the chairs are solid wood with no built-in cushion. It sounds like a strange question, but, I'm curious to know, from those who also have solid wood dining room chairs, if it is truly as uncomfortable as it seems to sit and eat a meal without padding/cushion.

And before anyone suggests it, we would NOT use those tie-on cushions, it just wouldn't work with our decor and/or the set.

I can only add:

I have the solid wood dining set my parents bought over 40 yrs ago. It has paid for itself over and over in its durability.

I don't consider it any more uncomfortable than dining out and getting a wood chair or wooden bench/booth seat.

We have solid wood dining chairs, and they are VERY old (they were super expensive and high quality when purchased, and were passed on to me - probably close to 30 years old), they are still in quite good condition.

I don't find them to be uncomfortable, except in the middle of summer when it is super hot and sticky and we are wearing shorts. Then when you stand up, your thighs have stuck to the chair and it feels like you left a layer of skin behind. OW!!

We have solid wood dining charis and we love them. They have an impression in the wood seat that's perfectly shaped for the sitter's butt, so the chair has a natural curve where you sit instead of being straight and flat. Very comfortable!

I've never thought mine to be uncomfortable. I sit at the table for hours scrap booking with no cushion. We bought the set 23 years ago.

We have a solid dining room set as well. We've never thought them to be uncomfortable what so ever. Our kids didn't complain either. What we didn't like about upholstered chairs and seat cushions was the staining.

We have an average kitchen table and it is wood and we have no cush to them and its fine. In fact I am not a fan because it always "lifts" me up higher than I want to be and then I dribble on myself.

You will be happier without the cushions.

I prefer the solid seat. I think the built in cushions get way too icky, especially given how messy my toddler is! Knowing I have another baby boy who will likely be just as messy furthers that I have no intentions of owning chairs with built in cushions for many years.

That's what we have. Solid wood no cushions. And I've never had a problem sitting in them.

We don't sit in them all day though - only for meals pretty much and the occasional school work project that is messy and needs the easy clean up of the table.

When my inlaws come visit, they are on them for hours playing cards and have never said they were difficult to sit on even though they have soft cushy chairs at their home bought specifically because they play cards at the table for hours. LOL
