Which could mean that she wasn't fired, but that her contract wasn't renewed, and that she chose to drama the situation up. That would be valid reason for her to still be in contact with guests - finishing up her contract. It's been my experience that sub par employees prone to drama will often paint the situation to get the most pity, and saying she was fired was her way of doing so. Even if that was the case, a guest shouldn't have to put up with it, though I understand a guest just wanting to avoid the drama of saying something. |

DCL and most cruise lines have a clause in their contracts were a crew member can be fired pretty much at will. In DCLs case, they usually have some type of performance clause that says that you will do x,y,z, in a certain time period. They also have a code of conduct etc. If they are termed for any of those reasons and the person shows no outward signs of violence, theres no reason to basically incarcerate a person. That prob would open them up to a whole slew of legal issues if someone wanted to push it. On the other hand if they act out violently, or show other signs of aggresion, or were termed for threatening a guest for example, then they are confined to a cabin until the next port or the ships home port, and chances are they are getting a pretty matching set of silver braclets. |

There is a question on the comment card regarding whether or not you were pressured to provide excellent ratings. That makes me think Disney knows it's a problem.

There is no way to know whether this CM was fired or whether a decision had been made to not renew her contract. Bottom line, in either event it wasn't appropriate to visit her distress on a guest.
And, as above....if she was not felt to be dangerous, it would make sense that she had the run of the ship and was continuing her duties until the end of the current contract or cruise. Still, it should never have been shared with a guest. |

We sailed our one and only cruise on the Wonder and I (as a mere passenger) am lovingly sentimentally attached to that ship already. We made a point to chat with nearly all cast members that we could and talk about their lives and their jobs and families etc. We got to really know many of the activities staff pretty personally. Even our state room host we chatted with on those rare occasions that we crossed paths...I say all of this to say WE brought up the question of whether or not they had been on one of the other ships and each and every one of them immediately called Wonder home and never wanted to go on one of the other ships. Our servers did mention that Dream and Fantasy were just too big but the main issue was that they felt at home on the Wonder and I can't help but feel that has a lot to do with management and leadership on board. After reading this thread it had never occurred to me how the shorter 3-4 day trips just make it that much more work and turn over--paired with them being bigger ships.
I will say we had only 1 instance where we were subjected to rudeness and it was a bar tender in the Promenade Lounge. Part of me wants to "blame" some of her curtness on cultural difference but when we encountered her walking around the lounge openly grumbling we knew it was simply her personality. My husband likes to strike up conversations with people and had been in the lounge early for an event and was trying to make small talk- but is not a drinker and had his refillable cup with soda on him. She was doing nothing and yet was very annoyed to be having to interact with him since it was apparent that he was not going to be buying anything from her...after the trivia event was over we lingered and she began walking around the lounge area. Apparently some people had left their pencils on the tables and she kept swiping them up and loudly muttering "can't even pick up their own pencils-- sheesh" Not sure if she was irritated by passengers leaving them or the activities staff not having picked them up..and regardless of the fact that it was rude for people to just leave pencil it was very undisney for her to make those comments in front of other guests. |
