Haunted Mansion

Is it just me, or does it seem to be moving faster?

They have control over any of the omnimover rides to increase or decrease the speed. There's a maximum and a minimum, but between the two they can shift it.

From my years of playing Roller Coaster Tycoon I can tell you that just shaving off a few seconds from the ride time can add a a lot of throughput.

But alas the ride breaks down more and you have to hire more mechanics.

Also if you speed up the belt too much you have to stop it more for mobility impaired guests which probably would negate any added capacity.

Besides, if they speed it up too much, it sounds like "Day of the Living Dead Chipmunks."

I always felt the DL one was faster than the WDW one.

It might be. I remember reading some site recently that mentioned WDW altering the timing of a few rides. I do remember that it was mentioned that they reduced the loading time of Rock N' Rollercoaster by a fraction of a second and now carry about a half million more riders per year because of that tiny change. I think another might have been Buzz? But they do apparently tinker with the timing.

Interesting question! I have never been aware of the speed we are moving at but I may have to pay closer attention next time.

We went on on POC when it first opened and it seemed to be going so slow. At one point, I thought we were stuck. There were no lines at all, so maybe when there is no crowd, they make the rides go slower.

Thanks for the info. I've rode HM like a million times because it's one of my favorite rides. But the last few times (I'd say for like the past month) it just seems to be moving noticably faster.

Or maybe I'm still just crazy, lol.

The faster they make it the more people will have trouble getting in.

That ride gets stopped constantly because people cant seem to handle getting on.

I would have my doubts that Disney could increase the speed of the Mansion simply because it is a continuous loop ride and the visual is in sync with the audio. Speeding up the speed of the loop would mean speeding up the audio and I just don't see that happening.

Most of the other rides around WDW could have their speed adjusted without impacting the visual/audio sync, but not Mansion.
