Look into The Homestead in Virginia too. Great family place to visit with lots of activities but it's in the mountains, so you're looking at cooler temps. They have horseback riding, shooting, hot spring fed pools, lawn games, hiking, golf. And since you mentioned not wanting to cook, they have a meal plan for their restaurants (European style packages).

If your mom wants 3 meals a day and you want warm weather and no possibility for your brother to join you and freeload, sounds like you're talking cruise. I know DH said he doesn't want a cruise, but that would tick all your boxes and make it more of a "get away" for you. Have fun planning.

They were pretty tame with us since we had the dd's with us (20 & 15).

However we had a blast and the food was pretty good.

We've also done several Thanksgiving vacations, and New York City was by far the most memorable one. The weather was tolerable, crowds manageable(thanks Tripadvisor for tips), and cost was not much more than we spent for a week in Panama City, FL this summer.

Central Florida is really beautiful if you've never been to the coast. My favorite is Siesta Key, which has amazing beaches and beautiful places all around. It seems like a great place for kids too. I know you are looking for somewhere warm, but have you considered Massachusetts? It is by far my favorite vacation place, even though the weather isn't warm in the winter. If you were interested in info about Massachusetts, check Mass Vacation's site. They even have some good information about things you can do with the kids in general, not just in MA.

Tybee Island GA...very nice and quaint. Can do a dolphin tour...maybe. We went in September, so check to be sure things will be open and running in November. But it is also close to Savannah and you can sight see there too (we went there right after Christmas one year...it was chilly but not as bad as MD that time of year and lots to see and do). The Savannah area is one of my fave places to go. I envy you as I have always wanted to go away for Thanksgiving...get away from the drama of which family we would spend Thanksgiving with (mine or DH's).

Check out renttybee dot com and look at Desoto Beach Club properties...love them...nice 3 BR with elevator that opens right into your condo.
