Away from family

To secure our future I have taken a job that requires me to be in southern Illinois 20 days out of each month. Which is a long way from our home in new hampshire. I am not loving it!! Matter of fact I'm kind of miserable. We have skyped as a family, just not the same. Anyone have any suggestions to cope? And if anyone is in the charleston/matoon area that wants to talk Disney let me know!

Is it a long term job? Can your family join you?

It's for 3 months. After that the family may come out. So short term. But with a 7 year old daddy's girl at home it feels like a life time

Time to teach the 7yo to text. While that is funny, I am serious. You will sort of feel connected because it is like "talking".

Go and get a Samsung Galaxy 3 or iPhone 5 for you guys. It is really amazing how much you can be connected through your phone.

Can you fly home after 10 days for a day or two, then fly back? If you don't care about flight times, you could Priceline a flight. 20 days is a LONG time away. I spent 3 months away when I studied abroad, but I had my fiance and best friend with me. I agree that Skype isn't the same, but it can help. Maybe give your daughter "projects" to do for you...like to color you a picture, or record herself singing you a song or make up a dance routine for you and then she can perform them when you get home. Just trying to think of what I'd do if I had to be away from my sweethearts.

I agree it would be nice to give your daughter a phone to text on so she knows you are always there when she needs you and can contact you privately and easily. She could even call you to chat.

It is really only short term, so just try and get through these slow moving 3 months and before you know it, your family will be joining you
