Universal Annual Pass activation ?

Hi all,
I am looking at purchasing a universal AP for our upcoming trip this January online. I have purchased AP's for universal before but its always been purchased when we arrived. Now I am looking at buying it advance (now). My question is if I buy it now will it be activated now? I know with Disney you can buy it and then not activate it until you get there, does Universal work the same way? Or if I buy it now does the 12 months of the pass start when I buy it?

Annual passes are valid from the date of activation...not purchase. You will need to activate the pass at the gates so you can buy it pretty much whenever but not activate it until you're visiting the parks.

I'm sure it starts on the date you activate, but the number for Universal Guest Services is 407-224-4233. You can call and confirm

Yup...not activated until you go through the gates.

I have pre-purchased mine using the flexpay option, and customer service told me just to bring the paperwork that was emailed to me and activate the annual pass at the park from the first day I want to use it - the pass will commence from that date, not the date I purchased.

even though with flexpay option I am already paying monthly now.

She said also to remember to cancel it exactly 11 months from the date I made the online purchase, and not the date I activated it otherwise the flexpay will continue as passes purchased via this method automatically renew after 12 months, and then the pass will remain active on a rolling month by month basis until I cancel it.

She said if I no longer wanted the pass after 12 months from date of activation then to cancel the automatic renewal I will a have to email them 30 days prior to the end of the anniversary of when i first paid for it, not first used it. If not they will continue to charge my card on a month to month basis. She said to make sure I put a reminder on my calendar if I don't want to auto -renew. She also said I could call 1-888-5-FLEXPAY to cancel in September 2013

eeeek - must remember to put the date on all my calendars and Iphone reminders - !!!!
