Taking back a reservation from a TA

Has anyone done this?? And how do you do it? I'm not happy with our TA and figure I might as well hold the reservation myself rather than always correcting someone else...

And is it easy to move/change a reservation directly with DCL? Can you do it online or do you have to spend a long time on hold to talk to someone?

When I did it, I had to get the agency to release the reservation back to DCL since they "own" it. DCL won't release it from the agency without their consent to the best of my knowledge. I would suspect you are going to have to deal with the agency one last time requesting that they release it. Hopefully, they will without any difficulty. If they don't then I would call DCL and see what they can do to help, but I'd start with the agency first. Good Luck!!

Thanks for the reply. I was afraid of that ...I feel kind of bad taking it back but on the other hand, it takes a lot before I get to that point so I think I"ve been pretty patient. I can't help but think how much trouble I"d be in if I hadn't been keeping a close eye on everything! So much for the worry-free travel planning

Can you try just moving it to a different agent at the same agency or the parent agency?

I would suggest that you write a letter to the agency (perhaps addressed to the head of the agency if known), detailing your difficulties and ending with a request that "in view of the above, I'm asking that you release my reservation back to DCL." And I'd copy it to DCL--they need to know who isn't cutting it.

If you book directly thru DCL, many matters can be handled on line, but some do require the attention of a CM.

Most TAs will not accept a reservation that has been previously released from another TA--sort of a professional courtesy thing. (I know you didn't ask, but...)

Another point of view here..... if you can get the same cruise, at the same price, by booking directly with DCL, you could just have the TA cancel the current reservation and book the new one yourself. As long as you are outside the penalty window (and the current reservation is not a Concierge cabin) you will get a full refund of the deposit on the current reservation.

Good point, I'd forgotten about that option. But do read the agency fine print first (if they made you sign anything). While DCL has no cancellation fees outside of the penalty period, some agencies do. In my experience, these were smaller, local agencies. Also, verify on line that the cruise price has not increased since your original booking (as noted above).

This is what I did. I imagine its easier than trying to switch TAs.

Good luck!

I'd do that but it's an OBB reservation and I imagine I'd lose the perks if I cancel this reservation It just so frustrating. I'm still waiting to get a confirmation about my change request from last week !

Yes unfortunately, you would lose the OBC, and 10% discount, since it was an OBB reservation.
