Are YOU prepared for December 21, 2012?
I am going to post this thread and attempt to attach a poll with it to try an figure out if my husband is crazy or not. There's not much of any backstory to this, but my husband has been buying and storing water, canned goods, batteries, matches and other necessities down in our basement for the past 6 months. I asked if this was for the Zombie Apocolypse or something (always said jokingly). He admitted that while he doesn't necessarily believe the world will end on December 21st, or that zombies will take over, he does believe that something awful may happen (think back to Y2K panic). He wants us to all be prepared if some awful catstrophe happens. I personally think this is crazy. I'm wondering if anyone else is doing this (or will even admit to doing this).
He is very intelligent so this kind of thinking seems very irrational to me. We have enough canned ravioli to open a food pantry at this point. Please someone tell me that we aren't the only family preparing for the end of the world. (I shouldn't even use the word "family" since he is the only one doing this). ...attempting poll now. Sorry if it doesn't work. EDIT: My option 2 was too long so apparently it didn't post the poll.

Has your husband been watching Doomsday Preppers? If not, don't let him find it on TV -- he'll think he's not doing enough
. I think my DS16 is secretly hoping something happens ... Walking Dead, etc. are his favorite types of books, games, shows, etc. And no, we're not doing anything to "prepare."

I'm coming over to your place GP. I will be a very good guest and bring the munchies.
Op, I actually work with an extremely bright gentlemen who also believes in the Mayan calendar. Evidently some thing about the earths rotation is going to fizzle out around that time causing cataclysmic weather problems. As long as it doesn't bring 35 inches of snow like a few years ago, I'm cool.

Can I come over?
No, I'm not doing anything to prepare. I will admit that I'm a big fan of Falling Skies so my cousin and I have planned a meeting place for when the aliens attack. That way we can find each other. Yes, there is rum there. Its not the Winchester though.

I don't think he believes the world is ending, but rather some big catastrophe will happen that will have a long term impact on how we live.
Ex: No electricity for X amount of time (I'm not exactly sure he knows. He is very vague about his rationale behind all this).

And then there was the .... post 9/11 was it?.... dirty bomb scare, I think, where EVERYONE was buying plastic sheeting and duct tape to cover their windows to keep the radiation out. I STILL can't believe people actually BELIEVED that bull pucky. ![]() So now the thing to make those gullible people go absolutely crazy is the 12/21/12 end of the world hooey. If it's going to be of such cataclysmic proportions, what good will stocking up on water and canned goods do? It'll all be vaporized anyway.OP - it's only 3 more months and then you can have a canned food dinner party in early January to get rid of part of DH's stockpile! GOOD LUCK and stay sane!

Yep, I'm totally prepared.
We have dining reservations for 12 at Cinderella's Castle that day. If I'm gonna die, that's where I want to be! But if we do have a Zombie apocalypse I'm covered there too. We have the RV and I have DS16 and my BFF's hubby. They both have escape routes and survival plans prepared. Those 2 crack me up!

![]() I remember Y2K. We had friends who invested I don't know how much money and bought 100-lbs of rice and 100-lbs of beans. They invited everyone to come over with big silver galvanaized trash cans and 5gallon buckets and take what they wanted. I got about 10-lbs of each myself. But then again, my family actually LIKES rice and beans and they last a long time if stored properly. My friends ended up with about 30lbs of rice & beans, 10-lbs dried raisins(they were like hard pieces of sticks!), dried gravy mix, dried potatoes, dried vegetables that had to be reconstituted. I think they ended up ditching a lot of it when they discovered that the kids wouldn't touch the dehydrated food. Here's my plan: Finish up the Christmas shopping, make some good coffee, bring out some cookies and watch movies On Demand. If the world ends, well I suppose we'll all die. No need to leave behind a whole bunch of food that will spoil as soon as the electricity goes off.
