Question Able to get a GAC for DD but don't think it's necessary. Anyone else?

We could get a GAC for DD but am wondering really, what the benefit would be?

Thoughts?

That really depends on what your needs are.

We get a GAC for our son who is Autistic, but we only use it when necessary. If the wait times are short, we stand in the regular stand by lines. I say get it, and then you can choose whether or not to use it.

She could obtain one for a variety of reasons; seizures, heat, exhaustion, medication interaction with sun etc etc...I don't want to necessarily get into her specific diagnoses but they're numerous.

Just curious, how much of a difference having and using a GAC would make?

Good idea. Seems simple when I read it like that.

I get the GAC because it reduces my meltdowns and anxiety, allowing me to relax and have fun.

If you need one, get it. If you don't, don't get one.

I'm glad it works for you.

I guess I'm deciding between her needing one and her needing one. Qualifying for one isn't an issue.

Go ahead and get it and if you guys end up needing it, use it.

The accommodations vary by attraction, time of the year and time of day - so any answer you get on here may or may not match your experience with it.

Sometimes using the GAC will mean a longer wait, but in a better location - depends on what your needs are, really.

1. Go over to the disABILITIES! Forum. Especially see Post #6 in the disABILTIES FAQs. Follow the link in my signature.

2. A GAC is designed to assist on specific medical needs, not on a diagnoses.

3. Think of it as an insurance policy. You hope you do not have to use it, but it is there if you do need it.

Perfect. Yes, I know GACs are symptom based not dx based as all dx present differently depending on the person.

Anyone can get one I think.....they asked me if I wanted one when I mentioned to guest services that my friends DH is going for the first time and that he hates crowds...
I was just making small talk....very surprised that they mentioned a GAC! I told her that he was a grown man and certainly didn't need it, he'd just go back to the resort and enjoy the pool when he had enough of the crowds...
Butnif there is a chance that your DD could seize from standing in the heat, I'd say get one. That way if a situation that might trigger a seizure arises, you have the card.

Actually, they are needs based, meaning that in order to have equal access to an attraction, you need a certain accommodation, if available. A lot of needs are visible, but for the "invisible" ones, a GAC aids the CM at the attraction. It keeps the lines moving, so guests don't have to repeat/argue, etc over accommodations.

I would say get one just in case you need it. If you don't need to use it then great...but i would get it just to have it handy in case. have a great trip

We won't do Disney without a GAC. Before we knew they existed our trips were full of meltdowns (DS on the autism spectrum). With the GAC our days have far less meltdowns. As others have said if wait times are low we use the stand by line but we know we always gave the choice.
