Mixology??

Tell me about Mixology. How long is it? Is it worth it? Will I leave there plastered? I don't mind a little buzz, but we have a toddler, I don't want both DH and I being wasted before dinner trying to decide if I should book it or not.

In my experiece these sessions last an hour with discussion and you have the equivalent of two or three drinks tops. Nobody gets intoxicated; and they are very informative.

On our recent Magic cruise, our mixology session was only about 35 minutes and was held in Sessions. We learned about vodka (very interesting) and tried 5 different drinks. They come in small glasses and you don't have to drink it all if you don't want to. I drank all of mine and one of my husbands and I was not drunk at all. They have mixers in them as well (except for the traditional martini) so it's not all booze.

The tequila tasting session we did on the Magic last year was A LOT more liquor and I only drank about 1/2 of what they gave me (and shared the rest with 2 college guys at our table - who were happy to take my left-overs!)

DH and I just did the Mixology this past summer in the Cadillac Lounge. I did not get plastered, but I think if I drank everything I would have been! They gave us about 4 drinks, plus DH won one which was a really great drink! Some were VERY strong (i.e. - Martini). I am glad we did this and would definitely go again.

Seems like each class is a bit different. Ours lasted about two hours and we sampled too many drinks to count. He started with martinis, moved onto black Russian, white Russian, Colorado bulldog, and another drink in the same category. After that, we tried some mixed drinks. At the end of the session I was invited behind the bar to create my own drink and served it to everyone. One other guest did the same. It was a great class. We were on the Dream in Skyline.

Is the mixology class something that can be booked in advance? If so - how? I'd certainly like to. Also, how much is this activity? Thanks!

Go to guest services to book the tastings and mixology. They were each $15 on the Wonder last week.

They ran out of room on the Mixology on our last cruise, but we signed up for the Mojito one instead. They gave us 6 full glasses. One I was allergic to, but two that I liked but couldn't finish while there (it lasted about an hour), the staff said, why don't you take it with you? So I took one with me to nurse at the show, then the other one to late dinner, and had a nice, long lasting buzz without getting drunk. Its all about how much you want to drink, and feel free to nurse your beverage as long as you like. If you don't want to, you don't have to finish the whole beverage there.

This is what ours was like on the Magic during a Med cruise two years ago. Hope it is like that on the Fantasy next week. We kind of played up the class to our family that will be going with us. If it is only 35 minutes long and we don't get to try to make the drinks ourselves, there might be a bit of disappoint. But I must say, my DBIL is quite a character and can talk most anyone into anything. (Can be dangerous! ) So maybe he will help with schmoozing the bartender into doing more.

I think champagne was $20 on the Dream last year when we did it; the rest of them were running $15. That's per person, by the way.

Defintiely book at Guest Services as soon as you know you want to attend - space is usually limited and the popular ones sell out quickly.

Thanks for all the thoughts. Perhaps we will look into it if it's available.
