ID for kids at airport
DH and I are taking our grandkids to WDW and wondered, since the last name is different, do I need their BCs? Last trip their mom and dad was with and I don't recall needing anything. Just want to be prepared. Flying from Az.

Children under 18 do not need any form of ID to go through security and to fly domestically. The only exceptions would be a child under two traveling without a ticket and children traveling on discounted youth fares (very rare), in which case you would need proof of age to confirm that they were qualified to travel on that basis.

Thanks! I figured this was the case but need to be sure. As long as my granddaughter doesn't have a melt down and start screaming "You're not my mommy!" hehe

![]() They have asked DS (they=TSA) "who is this person to you?" and variations of that. I've always been fine with DS calling me by name, since that's how I grew up too (and Molly is so close to Mommy in kid-speak that by the time I had a kid I was OVER having people call me Mommy), but the TSA agent did raise an eyebrow the first time to "this is Mowy and this is Robert". (DH does like to have the title used, so it was funny that DS chose to use his name that time, but I guess he was just being specific!) But most kids don't use first names of relatives, so you shouldn't have that come up. And it wasn't a big deal anyway, just a little nervous-making at the microsecond it happened. But taking the kids somewhere without the parents...you should have a notarized letter saying you have permission to travel AND to get medical care for them anyway, so it would be covered in that letter IF you were ever asked for proof.

Medically all you need is the insurance card. They are going to call anyway or can call and with cell phones it really isn't a big deal anymore. |

we took all of this anyway
when we brought DGS to WDW earlier this year. Mom & Dad are not together or even speaking so I didn't want to take a chance!! But I really didn't need the note from his mother. TSA looked at him and said "are you Jayson?". thankfully he smiled and nodded (only 2, doesn't take to strangers much yet).

Thanks all! I don't see any problems since both grandkids are really looking forward to the trip, and I am making sure that my little 'drama queen' DGD is well rested and fed to keep those embarasing moments at bay!
