Do they still have the Luau if it's freezing out?

I know it's outside (haven't seen it since I was little...but do remember that much.)

What if its really REALLY cold. We always go in December. Some nights were hot, others were chilly, some were downright COLD. While I don't mind doing the parks with a coat, hat, and gloves on...I don't want to eat like that

The Laua does occasionally get cancelled if the weather is cold enough. According to wdwinfo.com the threshold temperature is 50F.

There was at least one closure this winter.

It was cancelled the night I had it booked in December 2010. Disney did a great job letting me know - I had messages on my cell phone and room phone as well as an e-mail. They also offered to help us make alternate arrangements for dinner.

1) Luau Closures:
. . . rain (moderate-to-heavy)
. . . lightning (any)
. . . too much wind
. . . low temps (below 50ºF at start and 40ºF during show)
2) Closure decisions are made up to 1/2-hr before performance.
3) Unless day-long rains or forecasted cold.

NOTE: If they cancel, they DO NOT provide alternate dining arrangements.
You are on you own to get ADR's elsewhere. They will look for open times
at other eateries with you if you go to the podium, but do not have any
"pull" to get you other ADR's.

I'm thinking of booking this for a January trip, but I have a fear this will happen. How long in advance did they let you know? Did they refund your money? I would assume so, but just curious.

You never know what kind of weather you're going to get in Jan. The past 2 New Years' eve's we have stood outside watching fireworks in short sleeve shirts, jeans, and flip flops. A few Octobers ago we woke up to frost on the ground, go figure. I'm a native and you just never know what kind of weather you're going to get from mid Oct through April. After that it's pretty basic hot, humid, rainy, with a chance of a hurricane. I was staying at the Poly Dec, 2010 and it was freeze your butt off cold. They cancelled the show when we were there.

They let us know they were cancelling I think in the afternoon, can't really remember.
Yes they refunded the money.

When I book something like this, where there's a chance of cancellation due to weather, sorry to say this but I do double book. I don't want to get stuck eating crappy food when I've planned a really nice evening. I watch the weather and if it looks like it will be a good night to go, I cancell the ressie I don't need.
