We tend to do 2 big meals a day on our trips (DL) and not really snack, so we figured the same for this trip....but now we've cut out a lot of our 2nd big meals in a day and going to quick service and snacks to fill in. With the twins, we kinda needed the TS meals as a time to unwind and relax but we'll work with what we have if we can JUST GO!! ![]() Quote:

We've been having issues with Michayla banging her head and smacking her arm on walls really hard......found out this afternoon that a fall she had a month ago actually caused a fracture in her arm. Tyler (my 25yr old), was carrying her to bed and they fell over a baby gate and he landed on her. I was concerned about a break and we took her to the ER. We waited over 2 hrs in the lobby and finally got back to the see the Dr. We saw him for 2 mins......really! Since she had her arm under her head as she was lying on the bed, they decided an xray wasn't needed. I wish I would have put my foot down. The next week she was still favoring it and it was bruised up. Well since then, she has started hitting her forehead with her finger, then toys and then full on head banging......getting harder and harder. She also smacks her arm on walls at full force. So I took her in today to rule out ear infections, etc. Since her little receptors in her brain work differently, we were hoping maybe an undetected illness was the cause. She's healthy, but the dr decided to xray the arm just in case.......well, it has a fracture!!
I feel terrible that I didn't push the xray!! Now we're waiting for a call from the ortho. I'm not sure if they'll do anything or just monitor it. I'm actually hoping they'll cast it just to protect it until it does heal fully. Heaviest of sighs.........

![]() Don't beat yourself up. This is their bad. They should have spent more time with her and check it more completely. Shame on the ER.

Thank you.....we'll make sure that the ortho knows she's smacking that arm really hard on walls and stuff......I think casting it would be the best way to let it heal.....so I'll be advocating for that or a hard brace that ace bandages on. Something to protect it.

Don't feel bad for not pushing the x-rays. Sometimes that isn't even enough. When I was 12/13, I hurt my foot playing basketball with a friend of mine. My mom took me to the ER, we got the x-rays and the Dr. said that it was just a bone bruise. A co-pay and set of crutches later, we were out the door.
I was glad it wasn't broken, because the next day, was my class trip to the local amusement park (now a Six Flags). So, not wanting to slow my friends down (nor limit the time I had for rides), I decided to limp my way through the park. When we returned to the school, the bus pulled into the school, my dad was waiting for me (I thought I was in trouble for something ). I got off the bus, he said "Let's go." On the way to the hospital, he told me that the Dr.'s supervisor saw the x-rays and wanted me back IMMEDIATELY for a cast. When HE showed us the x-rays, it was obvious to my dad and me, the my foot had a clean break across the middle, from big toe to the piggy that went home. So, you did everything right. The people that you put your faith in, let you down.

My hubby has pretty much taken the blame on this.....he said he was the one that said an xray wasn't needed and the dr agreed.....but I also feel, it's the doctor's license and reputation that's on the line and when you have a non-vocal, mentally delayed, autistic child.....it's better to cover your bases then to leave things undone. Well getting ready to call the ortho and hope we can get her in today!

I'll never forget that morning, the heroes, the images, the chaos, the fear, the pride for America as we banded together........today is a day to reflect, to thank those that risk their lives daily and to remember the innocent lives we lost that day and still today from the after effects of the dust.

Not a day any of us will likely forget.
I hope all goes well at the doctor. I hope they don't have to re-break it. My husband had to have his hand rebroken after if set wrong when he was a child. Of course, that was a long time ago, so I'm sure they have new methods of doing things. |

I hope your appointment goes well today Laurie!
It sounds like if the behavior started after the fall that it is definitely causing her some discomfort so hopefully they are able to do something to help her!
