Alamo 'holding' charges?

Hi

We have a prepaid car hire (including everything) but I understand that we need a credit card in the drivers name at the rental time. Presumably this is the put a holding charge on for any damages etc? Does anyone know how much it is?

Also, I'm a bit broke at the moment so I'm borrowing the money from my father to put on to the card just for the 2 weeks. I'm returning it when I get back from holiday. But I can't use his card as he won't be with us and I'd rather not have to put it on my credit card cause then I'd have to pay charges to take the money off again two weeks later. And I'm worried my credit card company will also then treat that as a cash withdrawal.

Can I pay this with a visa debit card instead? Or will they accept cash? If not, does anyone have any other suggestions?

Alamo does not place a hold on your CC (actually they place a $0.01 hold in some cases ...)
I used Alamo on every trip and didn't have any hold placed on my CC

sure.
I've always used my debit card (caused quite a confusion because here in france we call both debit and credit cards a "credit card" or "blue card")

I used both Visa and Mastercard (both debit), no problem

if everything has been pre-paid. Your visa debit number will only be recorded just in case you generate additional charges ( tickets, unpaid tolls, etc )

If you choose the full tank of gas (return at any level) you'll be charged for the gas, but your card will only be charged when you return the car.

Or will they accept cash?
