You may not take photographs anywhere inside a Broadway theatre, even before the curtain rises. It's all protected by copyright laws.

lion king i recommend orchestra towards the front half. if not i always like front one or two rows of mezz but that is just my preference. when i saw lion king we went to the box office 10 minutes before the show. they had just opened a row of seats in orchestra, but they were full price and the only seats available. that was on a random weekend matinee too.

as for china town if you don't want to go into lots of little "junky" shops i would hit up pearl river mart. i love the size and organization of the store. it feels airy and relaxing to shop there.http://www.pearlriver.com/v2/index.html

i have heard good things about little italy for lunch. a coworker said he has gone and gotten really great specials ( i couldnt tell ya b/c im a celiac).

are you going to the MET? i have a membership and always recommend this one if you are only going to go to one art museum. it is suggested donation (very budget!) and they offer free tours. these are posted daily inside the lobby area. i dont recommend eating there but central park is right behind so if it is a nice day you can grab some food, picnic, and then head into the museum.

yes the newyork pass is a different pass than the newyorkcity pass. I've only used the newyorkpass.com but I would think it depends on your plans as to which is a better deal for you. When we stayed at Skyline Inn I think we just went across the street or a street down and bought deli to eat in the room after swimming but there were plenty of places to walk to to eat. The kids enjoyed playing with local kids for a bit in the playground right near the hotel as well.

I go along with staying directly in Manhattan. It gives you the ease of traveling and using the metrocard. Although taxis are easy to use and not that expensive I find it easy to get around using subways and busses for touristy places.
