Favorite Disney Memories from your childhood visits

My son is now 2.5 and I know that he will shortly start to remember some of our disney trips for a lifetime. What are some of your fondest (maybe not so fond) memories of visiting Disney as a child.

I'll go first. My favorite all time memory is of the Tomorrow Land Speedway. I was 5 and my mom let me steer the car. I never remember laughing harder than I did on that ride with my mom. Every time we bounced off the rails we would start laughing again, and we basically bounced off the rails continuously for the whole trip. I ride this ride now just so I can remember that first trip with my mom. Since i was so bad at driving the speedway car i assumed all cars were that hard to drive, and i was still scared to learn how to drive at age 19!

My second most vivid memory is of standing in line for Space Mountain for the very first time. I was again 5 and OBSESSED with being first before all my other family members. Well at some point down in the final queuing area I thought my Dad had slipped in front of me, so i gave him a HUGE bear hug and said " i want to go first!" The gentleman looked down quite shocked that he was getting hugged. It wasn't my Dad. I was so embarrassed. I went from wanting to be first to hiding behind all my other family members. I haven't hugged a stranger since.

What are your most vivid childhood disney memories?

One of my favorite memories was trying to decide how to spend my "E" tickets when there were still ticket books....I wanted to be sure I got to do the best of the best!! Had to buy a "ticket book" pin when I found it a few years ago!! Another favorite memory was just walking down Main Street upon arrival...such magic!

I remember riding Big Thunder Mountain when it was sprinkling outside. We rode it over and over again.

When I was in 5th grade, we had an encounter with a robot in Epcot. I was wearing a jumpsuit type of pants and he asked if I was wearing my pajamas. I didn’t know whether to laugh or be embarrassed!

That same trip – 5th grade – my gramma bought me a bead necklace in epcot that I thought was BEAUTIFUL! I finally found the perfect dress to wear it with in college. I think about her every time I see it hanging in my jewelry box.

I laughed when I read this!

My son who was about 3 years old at the time and my husband did the exact same thing! I heard them both laughing before I saw them. All you could see was the top of my son's head - he was wearing a sun bucket hat. That laughter was so contagious that a lot of people stopped to watch too. It is some of my favorite video footage. My son is 11 now and he still remembers riding those cars that day.

Honestly... I was lucky enough to go quite often during my childhood. As such, I can have random memories and images pop into my head if triggered of the most random thing. I also can't really remember exact ages for many of the trips, or sometimes even exact details.

That being said......

I remember my Dad always acting scared every time we rode Haunted Mansion.

Or fighting over who got to select the "journey home" on each ride of Horizons.... and then having to ride it again so my brother (or I) could choose the one He/I wanted.

I remember the Hydrolators, and playing around in the dive suit trying to reach the controls (and then when I got big enough, being really happy that i could work the hand controls).

Oh! Possibly one of my favorite memories..... Getting to play with the Dreamfinder on one of our many adventures thru space, or dealing with giants, etc with the green-screen thing upstairs at the Journey pavilion. (I used to LOVE that pavilion, so the point it's the inspiration for my Tattoo).

I remember always riding up front in the Monorail, and only on rare occasions did we sit in the back.... But i'll always remember the "CLACK"..."BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!" of the monorail doors on the old MKiV's....

Riding Space Mountain and my first Coaster...Big Thunder.

Riding the Sky buckets from Tomorrowland to Fantasyland, and loving how cool it was to see the tops of the buildings in Fantasyland.

Playing in the fort and exploring the caves of Tom Sawyer's Island....

Or actually.... This may seem weird.... But something I remember I used to REALLY love.... But riding the Parking lot tram at park close from the MK to the TTC. It seemed so cool and it felt like you were going so fast... and it was really awesome when you got to go under the "Water bridge". Honestly... this may be one of those memories I cherrish the most because it was a rather unique and unassuming thing, it happened after spending a full day at the park with my family.... And it's something that is firmly rooted in the past that I know I'll never get to experience again or share with my kids. I've been so many times when younger, and since i've been able to afford it the past couple years, I've been making as many trips as possible over the past couple years, that many attractions I loved as a kid I can still ride and experience, or I've seen replaced both with completely different and sometimes completely horrible replacements..... But the old Parking-lot tram to help move people from the MK to TTC at closing thing is something fully rooted in the past that just is a relic and item from my memory never to be repeated. (or ruined by what came after).

Something else not entirely Disney related... but my parent's owned timeshare while growing up, and recently I had a lot of really vivid and awesome memories of the small little resort we stayed at. I remember walking around the resort, playing in the pool and hottub... and even the playground behind the unit. I remember pulling up to our door after a day at the parks and going into the room. And I remember many a morning, sitting on the couch waiting or at the table eating my cereal before we left to go to Disney (Or Sea world/Boardwalk and Baseball, etc). To be honest, That resort and the times I spent there as a child are as deeply ingrained in my Disney memories as the actual parks.
