Stop for night on I-95

We would like to stay overnight in Southern SC, GA, or northern FLA on our way down for our June 2013 trip.
We will be on I-95, anyone have any recent recommendations for places you have had a good experience with?

We have twice stayed in St. Augustine, at the Hampton Inn right off the Interstate. It is just south of Jacksonville. You can get up in the am and get to Disney by rope drop, if you get up early. It's about a 2 hour drive. You miss the Jacksonville rush hour, and you are on tail end of the Orlando morning rush. It is reasonably priced and clean, although a little worn. It has no real amenities (not even a workout room), but it's a Hampton Inn so there's breakfast. If you have time, historic St. Augustine is really neat, and only about 15 minutes from the hotel. We would prefer to stay in the historic area, but it's not feasible if the goal is to get to Disney first thing in the am.

The last stop in Georgia before you get to the Florida is Kingsland Georgia where there are many hotels. We stayed at a Country Inn and Suites that was very convenient to the interstate, reasonably priced and clean with a breakfast bar in the morning. Coming from Apex, it would take you about 6-7 hours to get there.

We've also pushed on to Daytona, where you can usually find cheap hotels (if it isn't bike week, race week, spring break, etc.) Stayed at a decent Holiday Inn Express for $49 a night, but it was not a new hotel. Clean, but older. Then you are only about 1-11/2 hour from WDW depending upon traffic along I-4.

Best Western Plus at the Richmond Hill exit in Savannah Georgia. Right off 95, new and clean. Next day is about a 6 hr drive to WDW.

Any areas to avoid? We leave from nh, and usually end up sleeping somwhere in VA/NC.

We stayed in Rocky Mount NC at a Days Inn right on 301, not the best area. There's a cluster of hotels closer to 95 near the local hospital, that's a better choice if you end up in that area.

Agree with this, we usually have good luck with them.

Depending on how long you want to drive, we like Walterboro SC for location. The Microtel is cheap and fine, nothing special but generally positive experiences and reviews.

Last trip we stayed at Northern Savannah/Pooler, GA at a County Inn and Suites. The hotel was lovely, breakfast was good and we were around 4 1/2 hours to WDW. We stopped at the Walmart on the way for last minute medicine for a sick kid. We left at 9 and were checking in at 2.

Don't forget to stop at the Florida Welcome Center for free OJ and lots of brochures and books to read the last few hours. Builds the excitement!!

When are we going back? Not sure, hate the DAS, FP+ and the rooms keep getting more and more expensive.

We always pick up the motel/hotel coupon books available at the rest stops on the interstate. Usually, we can save a few bucks on the overnight rate and we know what is available at specific exits.

When I drove I stopped in Walterboro, SC. Haven't driven the last 4 trips but had stopped there from the early 1980s to 2000s. Checkout Tripadvisor to get an idea on the different stops.
The places I stayed at in Walterboro were right off of I95 so it made it easy to get back on the road the next morning
