Wow sorry about your dad- That is a lot to go through.

Free stuff is awesome, clearly why they make such strict weight limits on hand luggage.

Your travel tips are so right. I get soooo dehydrated on planes, I have to moisturise like crazy!
And if you get all out of whack with your meals it's really hard to get back into the right time.

But it is so weird on international flights when it's the middle of the night and everyone is asleep and suddenly the turn on the lights and it's like -surprise it's breakfast!! Even though it's 2am, please eat this fully cooked breakfasty meal.
I'm not complaining, it just feels so strange

Love the plane updates! I would have pocketed all the swag as well.

I think that words like 'peruse' are 100% necessary when describing all of the fancy, chi chi, luxe things that go along with being upgraded on your very fancy flight.

The food looks really good!

I'm going to get you one of those Evian face misters that all the super models use (at least Miss Tyra uses one) before your next flight! A girl's got to keep the skin hydrated! You'll be scandalized to find out that I rarely take my makeup off. I'm terrible. But, I'm all for you doing it!

Can't wait for more!
Well you'll be glad to know that my Dad (aka your boyfriend) is doing very well today. It will just be an adjustment period for him and figuring out how to navigate this.

Swag is always meant to be pocketed. Even if I don't want it I take it. Because....you know...it's free.

LOL, I HAVE one of those Evian face misters! Hahaha. But I will gladly accept another one. And if TyTy uses it, well then we all need to.

Sorry to hear about your dad There are several members of my extended family with diabetes - some type 1, some type 2. We're always trying to get my aunt to eat better. Best of luck to your dad for getting it under control with diet only

And (speaking of diets...) your dinner and brekky looked quite appetizing. Definitely agree about getting your body used to the new time zone straight away.
Sleeping pills never work for me.

You know, diabetes is really running rampant. I don't think you can talk to anyone who doesn't have someone in their family with it.

Dinner and brekky was very good. It was better than I expected.

That's some snazzy gear for "economy," my dear. With your last update, I was thrilled when I thought the upgrade just gave you leg room & champagne. I'm too short to need extra leg room myself, but I do love champagne. What a lovely way to start your big trip!
Oh and then comes the swag bag. Too fabulous that it's full of functional items *and* they're color-coordinated with your ab-fab nails! New favorite thing. Just sorry your sleep mask was malfunctioning. At least you had yummy brekkies and a fresh face to start the new day. Such a smart traveler. Can't wait for more!
I know, we were so happy he wasn't having heart trouble and this was a lesser problem, even though it's still pretty serious.

All of the freebies were great I loved them. Overall we were really happy with Virgin, except for the whole weighing your carryon thing. I would absolutely fly with them again.

Some day I want to get upgraded. Looks so fancy up there!
I'm glad too. I hope he can control it with his diet. It's going to take some time.

I don't think I'll ever be upgraded for free again. Hahaha. That has honestly never happened to me before this.

Thanks. He's doing better.

I have to moisturize all the time on planes. I'm not crazy like that on domestic flights, but for long haul I'm like "okay, act like you would at home".

It is bizarre when they wake you up to eat and you just ate, but I just went with it. I knew that if I didn't, I would regret it when I landed and couldn't get to food until later. Or when I was waiting in the neverending passport line.....

Oh my goodness, that's so scary! I'm so glad he didn't have a heart attack. He'll be in my prayers.

Omg, the one time I took sleeping pills I didn't sleep EITHER. It was the most annoying thing of my life.

At least your breakfast was 'tasty.' AND 'rico.'

Sorry to hear about your dad! Not easy - my dad has been diabetic for many years now and I have to say he is very militant about his carb intake/ exercise and has managed it very very well. Not such an easy adjustment though - hope your dad's health improves and he can get everything where it needs to be.

I have been looking at Virgin Atlantic flights wondering how their service would be - so far they are the cheapest carrier for me too but I had a very bad experience on a Virgin train so I have been reluctant to take the plunge - shouldn't let one bad experience put me off forever though.

Thanks Marissa. He's been doing much better.

I NEVER sleep when I take sleeping pills. They just don't like me very much.

Thanks. He's definitely on the mend. It's not an easy adjustment for sure. He wants to make sure that he can manage it with diet, but he's got a bit of a road ahead of him.

I really thought their service was great. The thing that was honestly the best were the flight attendants. They were really great. I would recommend the airline for sure.

thank you so much for all the concern for Danielle's dad and my hubby. He is doing a lot better already. Don't have the glucose levels under control completely yet but getting there. Thank you so much to all of you.

I agree with Danielle about Virgin... Our flight was fantastic. If we have the chance to go to Europe again we will for sure fly Virgin again.

We'll get him there soon. It will just take some time.

I'm glad you're here. I apologize in advance for any crazy shenanigans I may mention or get into. You honestly never know with me. Europe is amazing, and I wish I could go back all of the time. But, it's not always in the cards.

Hopefully I'll have an update tonight.

Where better to see Italians......

So this is a mini update and it includes some really exciting news. Ready? First I have to give you the llllooooonnnnnngggg backstory. (Okay, I lied, it's not so long).

Less than a month after I got back from my Europe trip, my brother Chris - (see below for reference for those not familiar with him from my prior TRs)

(Yes we're all crazy. Get used to it.)

Well he told me that he really wanted to go to Europe. He and his wife Sara had planned on going on their 20th wedding anniversary (dudes, it's still really far away too, like 7 more years). However, Sara really wants him to go now. Now, I read that as code for "I'm really afraid of flying (which she is), and I don't want to endure an 8 hour flight".

So he asks me if I would be willing to be his travel partner to Europe. I told him that was no problem BUT, and it was a big BUT, 2013 is already jam packed for me. I have to buy a new car, prepare to move to an apartment, and then we have a trip in July already slated for WDW with my other brother Jason and his boys. (Joaquin is his youngest for those who are familiar. He's pretty great).

So I told him that I wouldn't be able to afford it until 2014.

So then he emails me a few days later and asks if giving me $50 a day towards food would help, because he would be able to help me out there.

I explained to him that it's the fact that airfare for trips like that cost around $1000, and right now I'm depleted pretty far from my last trip and won't have that kind of money quickly.

So a few days after that he emails me and says:

"I would be willing to buy your airfare and pay for the hotel."

WHAT?! Who are you and what have you done with my brother!?

My Dad told me I was insane if I didn't take him up on it. I told him thank you so much, but that he needed to realize that I wouldn't be able to pay him back in a short period of time. To which he said:

"You don't need to pay me back. It's a gift."

Seriously? What is going on here?!

How do you pass that up....that's right YOU DON'T!

So, March 15 - 24 of 2013 we will be visiting.

ITALY!

Rome and Florence to be specific.

I'm going to roll in PTR details with this TR already and then hopefully just tack on the trip to this. I have too many things going on people!

So, that is also the explanation for my ticker, in case ya'll were curious.

Hopefully I'll be back to update tonight. Peace out DIStown.

Holy Crap!!! I am so jealous!!!

As the oldest, I hold no hope that my little brothers will ever offer up anything remotely as nice as that. How awesome!

Can't wait to hear about Italy with Mr. Drunk Little Cucumber! Sounds like you two will have a ball.

Love freebies! Also love flying Virgin - nothing like going on a Virgin train (which is awful). We flew Visgin to Ca for our honeymoon ()before premium economy was invented) and we got a simialr (but cheaper-looking)"amenity pack" - but not champagne.

Weighing hand-luggage is standard for us nowadays, its not just a Virgin thing.

That is an extraordinarily generous gift from your brother, you clearly really wants to go and have you as his travel buddy. How can you say no? If you did, you would regret it forever. WoW!!!!!!!!!
