Dad on Dialysis - Is that it for him for Disney?

My dad is 87 and my mom is 76, and they love Disney, but my dad is now on Dialysis (for the past 6 months). He will never be off it, as he is not a candiate for a transplant.

I know they would love to do Disney again. I would love to get as much info as I can for them. The problem I think there would be is:

1. they would not have a car
2. they are a limited income (my sister and I usually pay for their accommodations)
3. they will be staying on property so they can have Magical express and buses.

Is there a Dialysis center close to Disney World?
Do you they have any transportation (bus) to get there?
How easy is it to get set up?

Thanks for any help.

One of the closer dialysis centers is Celebration Dialysis. Their phone number is (407) 566-1780. Another center is Orlando Dialysis at (407) 426-9212.
I do not know if transportation is provided or if they would have to call a taxi. I am sending you a PM with some info as well.

My DH goes to Celebration Dialysis when we visit WDW. We stay at BWV and he generally takes a cab--bell services arranges the first ride then he works something out with the cab driver so he gets the same person every day. Round trip runs about $50-$55.

Margaret, you didn't say if your Dad was on hemo or PD; I'm presuming hemo. Aside from the transportation, the social worker at his dialysis center should be able to contact the centers close to WDW and get the information he needs. If he is using DaVita, it will likely be a no brainer setting him up there. If he uses an independent, that might be a bit more of an issue. But I think the first step would be to work with the social worker at his center. That's the kind of thing they do really well.
Good luck!

Definitely talk to your dad's social worker! That's the easiest way to set it up...

I want to thank everyone that helped. Sadly my dad passed away July 14. I will be taking my mom do Disney in a few weeks. Just the two of us. It will be a bittersweet vacation.

am so sorry to hear about your Dad. My Mother was 87 not well but she wanted to go one more time and she wanted to go to the MNSSHP and was so hot and humid that nite but she was determined to go and she was on her scooter and just had a blast watching it all and trick or treating again and we got a lot of pictures of her laughing and so many back home thought we were terriblle to take her on a plane and to WDW of all places and we tried to tell them this what she wanted. she passed when we got back and so many think it was the trip and it just was time and she also was not going to get any better health wise. but it still is hard to lose a parent. prayers are with you and your Mom....we took and dried all her roses from burial and took them on our next trip and scattered them all over WDW around all her favorite rides. so to us she will always be there...

That is such a nice idea to spread the petals around.

Since this trip is just the two of us, I have made plans for things she has not or could not do with my dad. New memories, because there are going to be some tears shed this trip with all the old memories of past visits.

Sorry to hear about your loss (OP and canopynut66, too).

The first trip after a loss is hard, but you will make many new memories.
We had many trips over the years with my mother in law and father in law. When he died, mother in law was not sure she ever wanted to o back. The first few days of our first trip back without him were hard, but we knew he would want us to enjoy ourselves.
