Our biggest fundraiser every year (back when my kids were in marching band) was what we called 'band night'. Every fall, just after the football season started, the kids, dressed in their summer band uniforms, gathered at the school one evening and were sent out in groups of 4 or 5 with a parent, and they literally went door to door in the whole school district, asking for support. They were very polite, thanked everyone regardless of whether they wanted to kick in a few bucks, handed out flyers about public concerts they were going to be giving, and raised several thousand dollars over the 3 hour event.
No selling stuff folks didn't want to buy, just a sincere, polite ask for financial support from their neighbors. Every kid had to participate, so the burden of fundraising was shared equally. And it's been working for over a decade now - so I'm guessing if there was a lot of outcry in the community, the school would have put a stop to it long ago. KC
