Great question, I've got no idea what I'm going to take on our trip other than my suitcase! On our Europe trip I just took a big tote bag which was great for sitting under my feet on the bus (Contiki tour), and easy to carry on the plane. But I also had a small messenger style bag for taking out day to day. Thinking maybe similar again but not really sure!

these answers are great, and really helpful.

last trip i encouraged everyone to take a small bag with them. wallet/camera/sunscreen etc each, that way when we got separated, we would all still have our stuff with us.

it ended up that the others said they didn't need a bag, they would just take a wristlet/wallet plus lanyard with kttw cards etc and carry their camera via wristlet etc.

in the end, it all ended up in my bag, plus sweaters they took off, plus purchases etc and when we met up after being separated, we had to do another round of the park to buy various items they wanted to buy but couldn't cause their money was in my bag so much time wasted that could have otherwise been spent on rides etc.

this time i am strongly insisting on a small messenger style bag (mine is similar to andona's hedgren, but a cheapo version) for each person, even if it is mostly empty and just to hold a camera, money and sunscreen etc.

the other thing about our travel party is that we are all adults and often go off on our separate ways. we are family members, but not a family unit, so that usually means more luggage, different sleeping arrangements (one bed each), 4 x cameras on the trip etc. it also means that each person carries their own money for souvenirs/purchases, no joint gift cards or credit cards etc, so we can't do just one bag for the whole group as it just doesn't work logistically

The last time we were there, my FiL brought a small bag like the pink adidas one shown in a previous post. . .and we did use it. I'm glad we had it. Our family will not be splitting up.. . so only one, maybe two would be needed. but I found the perfect bag on LL bean website, it's a quite small messenger bag that is crossbody. it should be quite water resistant which is important to us. and I will NOT take it off. we ended up forgetting lots of small stuff on rides that wasn't in the bag we had. . and once we forgot the BAG on star tours since it had to be stowed under the seat. This one is small enough to not need to take off, it will hold one or two small cameras, phone, cards, money, etc. it won't hold purchases though, unless they are very small. . .but we tend to do that type of shopping at the end of the day or we use the delivery service that sends it to the hotel. A small clip on sunscreen and we will be all set.

Last trip with WWoHP, I went to Universal with everything in pockets in cargo pants, sunglasses, wallet, tickets, sunscreen, rain poncho, keys, phone, p&s camera, there was absolutely no way I was going anywhere near the lockers on the Forbidden Journey! The pockets were definitely on the bulging side, but avoiding the lockers was the main concern. It was so freeing that I did it again when we went to the Disney parks. It was great! This was without kids though, only adults, though one did take his DSLR camera everywhere and complain about how often it had to go in a locker.....

Heh, my family knows I will NOT carry their stuff. If they want a bag, bring it.

I think I've learned to not carry a bag due to our Sea World passes. Sea World won't let you take loose items on their rides. Some have little cubbies you can use but not all of them (like Atlantis). They make you use a locker and then have the nerve to charge you for it. If I'm going to be forced to use a locker, it ticks me off to have to pay for it.

Too late to vote, but two backpacks here, for a family of four. I ended up buying a lovely comfy Roxy backpack at DTD. I have no idea what we fill these with, I guess phones, wallets, raincoats, purchases... we don't carry water, but I like not having everything in my pocket so works well. We do tend to do the occasional split up too, found it very easy to do that since we had phone contact.

Laughing about this post today having gone over with two suitcases for five if us-neither overloaded. We walked thru customs today with 5 x 23kg packed suitcases, two solidly stashed backpacks and three new roll ins.

Totally off Topic but that must mean you are on your way home and that we can hopefully expect a TR from you at some point

Was much better for us when we had a pram as it became the default pack horse. As our youngest grew out of it our last 2 trips have been a single back pack for sunscreen, wipes, washer and not much else as it starts to fill up quockly with Disney loot. Interestingly our kids have thought this through as they buy stuff like a hat they can put on straight away and souvenirs are smallish. Now factory outlet shopping is a different story!

welcome back robyn

i hit the post trip blues for a while when i got back, but editing my photos and writing a TR helped put it all in perspective.

then about 2 weeks after our last trip, i broke down, had a big cry on carlo's manly chest and explained that we just HAD to plan another trip or i would go insane...

luckily, he agreed with me and we have another trip in the works but i know how hard it is to go back to work and face reality without another trip going on ... and when we had to cancel our trip for this year, i was devastated.

maybe you could secretly plan a trip? and then surprise your DH down the line with all the research and hard work you've done, all the money you've saved etc, and convince him to take another holiday?

Some mentioning all the Disney loot filling up the bags stay on property. Why not just send it back to the resort and not lug it around? I did that when staying on property and it was great It took a little bit of time at each purchase, but not much. Or maybe that doesn't happen at DL? Or not staying on property at DL?

Robyn, I know exactly how you feel. We got back from our fantastic trip of a lifetime and I had no realistic hope that we'd ever get back again so I was a real sad sack for a few weeks. Then I started doing my TR and honestly it felt oddly therapeutic. Strange I know but that's the truth and I was pretty good until about a month ago when the anniversary of our trip was coming up and people that went when I did started booking second trips.........
