Opinion - but try to be sensitive
Just wanted thoughts from the board. I have a friend who is considering staying at the Fort on her next visit in January. Here's the catch, she is thinking of staying in a tent. Now I have no problem with tent camping, in fact that is how I grew up. But how safe is a single woman staying in a tent? At this time it is just her but her 20 year old daughter might join her.
Ok so now give me your opinions and the reasoning behind them. Thanks

I've known single women who have tented at The Fort. I would do it. I probably wouldn't stay in loop 2000 ( a bit reclusive). I would stay either in 1500 as a partial or if I could afford it a preferred loop.

I think I would feel very safe by myself. Has she camped by herself before anywhere else? If she has, I imagine she would feel very safe at the Fort.

I camped in my popup just me and my young daughter. I felt more unsafe on the drive down (just the 2 of us pulling a trailer 700 miles!) but I never felt unsafe at the Fort at all. If she's the type that is confident going places by herself, then she should be just fine.

I have stayed in our pop up with our son when he was younger, around 10 years old. I felt very safe and had no worries. I would recommend against the 2000 loop as well. It's farther out there and more secluded. She can also consider leaving out items that make it look as if two people are staying there, like an extra chair and/or coffee cup on the table.

I wouldn't go by myself...cause I just don't like it. But I would and plan on camping just me and my DD(9). When we were there I saw security constantly...plus lots of fellow campers all around (and we were in the 2000 loop).
It's not like you're REALLY camping out in the woods or at camp Crystal Lake.

I can see Jason now. Wondering among the loops at Fort Wilderness, wearing Mickey ears as well as a hockey mask.

Thanks everyone. I pretty much told her the same thing but really wanted more opinions. The Fort always feels more like home than anything else. Everyone is friendly and will help you with anything.
I've even stayed at (those other resorts - ) and had to stop by the Fort so I would feel like I was really home.If anything, she can check the Disboards and find others who will be there at the same time to help watch her back. I love this group!

We were in 800 loop a few years back and a women by herself stayed in a tent at least 7 days. She said her husband had a job in the area and she was by herself, we did see him our first night but not after that. We were right next to the comfort station..

I drove alone from southwest Louisiana to TN and tent camped twice in Smokey Mountain National Park. FW sounds a heck of a lot more secure and there sure wasn't any cell phone service for emergency use either. All you have to do now is touch a screen. Seems to me she would be fine in the 1500 loop.

In all the years (20) we have camped in a class A coach at the fort we have never had a problem or heard of a problem. Yes a class A is not a tent and I think a tent is more open to a break in and in the dead of the night simple noises sound like big problem noises. So the person camping must be secure in their mind to camp in the woods fort or not or forget it.

I have always been curious about tenting at the Fort.....what do you do for security of items you have to leave at your campsite? Obviously no wall safe and the security CM can't be everywhere. Any problems with theft?

I would suggest locking valuables in your vehicle.
