Canon Rebel T3i bundle good deal?
Costco is selling Canon Rebel T3i DSLR Camera with 18-55mm IS II Lens + 55-250mm IS II Lens Bundle for a little shy of $1000. Is this a good deal? I don't do much of manual settings and my main photo subjects are my kids and nature/wildlife stuff. (we are heading to Yellowstone soon.)
Also, as for lens, are they a good combo? I already have Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Lens so those 3 will cover most scenarios (at least for my situation)? I love taking pictures, but don't know much about them. ![]() Thanks in advance! |

Someone recently posted a link to buy the 55-250 lens for $150. I haven't checked lately but $850 for the camera and 18-55 lens doesn't strike me as an incredible deal, especially with the T4i now out.

Right now Amazon has the T3i body for $579, or a kit with the 18-55 for $699. They're selling the 55-250 for $199 (making an equivalent package ~$898).
So, no, the Costco deal isn't that great, unless it comes with more than the camera and lenses. I do know that the 55-250 is typically reviewed as one of the better "kit" level of lenses out there. So that may be worthwhile to shoot for (no pun intended), but unless there are other accessories valued (real valued too, stuff you'd actually need that's decent quality) at over $100, it doesn't look like the Costco package will be your best bet. (The Amazon searches here were quick, there may be other buying options from Amazon that are even cheaper, I just looked at the big search result price. Ok, I clicked on the T3i, and they have the same package for $849 (http://www.amazon.com/Canon-T3i-Proc...ords=canon+t3i)

And your 28-135 is a mid level lens while the 18-55 and 55-250 are entry level so you may notice a little loss of shaprness, contrast, clarity, with those lenses compared to what you're used to. But not much. Canon has really brought the quality of thier entry level elnses up in the last decade. I used three similar lenses (18-55 -the first non IS version, 28-105 f/3.5-4.5, and 70-210 f/4) plus a 50mm f/1.8 on a for long time. The 28-105 was my walkaround lens and works for most situations for the way I shoot, but I did need the 18-55 every once in a while when I want to go wider. I rarely used the 70-210, but I was (and am) glad to have it when I do need it. The 50mm is for low light.

That is a good deal. It's about what I paid for my Canon T3i. I love it too ~ and I think you'll be very, very happy with it.
The lens combo is wonderful too .
