Wonder March 2013
My family and I are contemplating taking the five day cruise out of Miami on the Wonder. Can anyone tell me about this itinerary? Are any of my fellow Disers going on that sail as well? We have never cruised before and I am nervous about transfers etc. Can anyone tell me how/where to start?

We are doing the 5 night Wonder cruise on 3/16. After looking at several options, we chose this one because: a) 5nights seemed like a good "starter" cruise length for taking the kids (we've gone adults-only but never with the kids); b) the price was reasonable compared to other DCL ships at the same time; c) the price was reasonable compared to other lines since we have 5 people in our family and would need 2 cabins on many other lines; d) the itinerary is pretty good. We've done Cozumel before and will just stay on the ship and enjoy what it has and Castaway Cay is new for us and sounds like fun; e) They have a nursery for our 1 year old so we can do adult stuff or stuff with the older kids; and f) it leaves out of Miami so I won't be tempted to squeeze in any days at WDW.
We're just adding one full pre-cruise day in Miami to let the kids have a "big beach" experience. Good luck with your planning and I hope it all works out. |

Oh, I forgot about your other questions. As to where to start, you're at it! Just start reading!!! You'll find more topics than you ever thought. As for transfers, our first cruise, we did transfers through cruise line. On our subsequent cruises, we've always just arranged it ourselves - either a cab, shuttle, or free hotel shuttle. You might want to check out some of the threads in the North American Home Ports - Florida Departures section and read some advice on leaving out of Miami. There are lots of options for hotel stays (if needed), transfers, things to do in Miami, etc.
Also, for excursions, our first cruise, we again booked excursions through the cruise line, but on all subsequent cruises have booked them on our own via indpendent contractors. It takes more research work on your end, but we've found it to be cheaper and a much better experience. But, if you just want ease and peace of mind, going through the cruise line is no problem. With only 1 real port of call, there's not a lot of stress in excursions. One last tip - go check out cruise critic's website. You'll not only find info about disney cruises, but cruising in general, and that may help answer more questions related specifically about cruises. |
