They are expensive because they haven't opened the regular value rooms yet. . Oh another thought, the rooms at Riverside have recently been refurbished. Maybe those would work?

I shared a listing of what I consider the cleanest options, not sure what else to recommend.

And yes if you request the VIP cleaning, your carpet will be damp when you check in, unless you ask them not to clean the carpet.

Thanks Sammie. As I said, I'm totally new to Disney property so I appreciate the tips and suggestions!

I LOVE the looks of the Wilderness lodge but it's a bit out of my price range. The lobby is stunning from the pictures I have seen!

One more thing. If you were looking for this October (2012) to rent a reservation from a member, you are probably too late. We tried to book BCV at exactly seven months out for mid-October and there were no one bedroom villas available for a week. We did get BLT lake view, but even that wasn't available a few days later. Oct is very popular with members and most book it as soon as they can at 11 months out.

Yes, Deb and Bill that is what the others had said. I had no idea. I had wanted to take the trip last October but I was hospitalized as my old kidney transplant that was not working was making me sick so they had to take it out. I had told my kids we would be going to MNSSHP and they were so happy. Then I had to tell them that we couldn't go because I was sick so I was going to make it up to them this year in October.

I was under the impression that October would be a cooler month to go but I am seeing some say it will still be hot? Maybe I should try to go in November and talk the kids into looking forward to Christmas decorations? Not sure.

When we went in May for three days it was super hot. Hoping for cooler weather than that trip.

October can definitely still be very warm, November is very pleasant and early December can be nice or really cold.

Occupancy levels will drop off some in Nov. after Food and Wine is over but before Thanksgiving but will pick up again as soon as the holiday decorations go up.

Best wishes, I hope you are able to make all the arrangements so the trip can happen for you!

Just in case folks want to truly be informed about traveling while on dialysis and waiting for a transplant. It is usually best to be informed before telling a sick person they should be checking in with their doctor instead of checking into Disney. Nothing better than a totally healthy person telling me I should stay home instead of enjoying a vacation with my very young children.
Just wanted to make sure you caught my suggestion about visiting the DISabilities board. I read there every day, and you will find folks with similar issues to your own who can offer their own tips and advice for your trip planning.

I understand where you are coming from. My father, also a dialysis patient, passed away at 54 while he was on the kidney transplant list. So DH and I tried to take our children to WDW at least 1x per year and purchased DVC so we could make multiple trips. Unfortunately, he passed at age 50 only three years after we purchased so he did not get to enjoy as many family trips as we had hoped to have.

If you can put your spot on the transplant list on hold and make a WDW trip, then go for the gusto! I wish my father had been able to do that...

Yes, I have been over there. They helped me with dialysis centers and scooter information in the past. I will head over there again to see if I can find out about some other topics.

I'm sorry to hear about your father. It's so sad when folks don't make it long enough to get a transplant. Luckily, Florida is not that long of a plane ride to Jersey if I should need to get home so I won't need to put myself on hold. I also have the rarest blood type and the typical wait time is about five years or more for B+ blood and I have only been on dialysis for a year this time around so I have a lot of time yet. My first transplant took a five year wait.

Making memories with my children is my priority right now while I am still with them. I took them for the first time two years ago for three days (two at Disney and one at Sea World) and it was so magical! So this trip I am hoping to see more of Disney and getting to do a bit more now that they are older and taller.

I just have to figure out all of the logistics of the trip but it's super exciting!

Sweetb, too am a dialysis practitioner and at the World now. We're a bit different in that I do PD as opposed to Hemo. I think your closest center that offers Hemo will be a DaVita center in Kissimmee , relatively close to the complex but, I've heard, difficult to find. Doing home PD I'm also a bit nuts on clean, of necessity. But with cleaning my work areas as I prep, I'm finding the rest of the room is great. And yes, I'm on the transplant list too, I just called my coordinator when we left and told her we were going to be out of town. She asked if I wanted a call if something came up and I told her yes, I would get back as needed. Best of luck and have a great trip!

My DS (age25) really wanted to stay at AOA this year with his 4yo daughter but for several reasons we will be at OKW. I looked into the prices and found that we could have done two rooms at the Little Mermaid section(opening in Sept I think) for less than one of the suites. The total bed configuration just didn't work for us with either option. I would have rented out my points and done it if not for that. We have stayed at some offsite places over the years before getting DVC and even recently when we couldn't get a room for the date we wanted. Yes they were cheaper, none were cleaner and they just didn't have the magic. Check with the travel company that is a sponsor on this board for some quotes - you may be pleasantly surprised. Remember that if you stay off site you need to add the cost of parking at the parks to the cost of your room. If you stay onsite parking is included or you use the Disney transportation system. You might also want to subscribe to the Mousesavers newsletter where you can find out about discounts on tickets etc.
Here's hoping that everyhting will come together for you and your kids to have a wonderful trip.
