Likelihood of being able to rent 2BR at BLT through rental company in October (2013)?

I am so excited - I have the green light to start planning my family's October 2013 WDW trip!!! The crew will consist of me, DH, DD1 and DD2 (who will be 4 and 2), my DMom, and DMIL.

Given the size of our group, I'm thinking I would like to rent points for a 2BR at BLT (so we can be close to MK, where we'll spend a lot of our time). I'm cognizant of the fact that these have to be booked very early, so I'm getting a good early start!

I have a few questions:

1. I plan on renting through something like dvcrequest.com. The point total for a week will be somewhere between 280-380 points depending on if it's SV, LV, or MK. Will I be able to rent so many points or is it unlikely I could rent such a big chunk of points?

2. What are the chances of actually getting a reservation for a 2BR of any variety? Have people had success at 11 months or even 7 months through a rental company? My worry is that people who have BLT points are not often willing to rent at 11 months and that by 7 months, there won't be anything left.

3. Can you specifically request a dedicated 2BR instead of a lockoff? I think our moms will be in the second bedroom and I'd like for each of them to have their own bed instead of one on a bed and the other on a sofabed.

Thanks for any information!

You might want to contract the rental company you intend to use since they will be the most knowledgeable on how they do things but in general there should be no problem getting a 2BR at 11 months, they will almost certainly have that amount of points for you (or if not I'm sure you would find a direct rental from an owner for it) and yes, you can specify a dedicated 2BR for your rental. October is popular for the Epcot resorts and for BLT because of F&W and the Halloween activities so I wouldn't wait until 7 months and feel certain about getting the reservation but at 11 months you'll be fine, especially if you are open to any of the views.

At BLT the largest category is lakeview so it's the easiest to get. After that the MK view seems to be a little easier to get than standard view however beginning in 2013 they have reclassified some MK view rooms to standard so that might be shifting.

Have fun planning!

Thanks, Kathy! I plan on contacting the rental company too, but I figured I'd also see if any owners have had any experience renting their points out through a company or if any renters have had experience renting points from a company. The reassurance is always nice

Follow-up question: are there a lot of dedicated 2BRs or are they hard to get? Do people tend to ask for these or do they prefer the lockoffs?

I am already enjoying the planning and anticipation!

Dedicated ones do go fast..I had trouble getting one at 10 months out for my August trip so I would definitely book right at 11 months if that is what you want

Good luck!

It will be Oct which is a high DVC demand time. Whether the rental company will have points, I do not know but as far as availability goes, you should assume that as long as the reservation is made exactly 11 months out from date of arrival, you will get what you want at BLT. If you delay any time past the 11 month window, some rooms, such as standard view will disappear quickly but lake and MK view will likely remain for a Little while longer. The resort has plenty of dedicated 2BRs but safety to assure getting what you want requires that you book exactly 11 months out.

We own at BLT and have stayed in a 2 bedroom dedicated twice.

I would say your chances are very good that you could get a dedicated 2 bedroom since you are planning this early.

I would go ahead and get in David's list as a potential renter at 12 or so months out so that you are already in the queue. Once 11 months hits, I would be on the lookout for an email from David and then quickly reply with a deposit.

Good luck.

Thanks everyone! It looks like I'll just have to wait for some pixie dust at the 11-month mark! I have to go look at my calendar to make sure I have the exact date marked

David's Vacation Club

We had a similar situation: wanted to book a 2-bedroom because my parents will be coming with us in May 2013. I kept looking at Rent/Trade boards and had trouble finding what we wanted. I contacted David's and got myself in their queue. On the day of the 11-month window opening, they contacted me to say they didn't have enough points. They asked if I wanted to be kept in the queue or not. I said yes, but was honest with them and said we would look to see if we could rent through other DVC members or The Timeshare Store (they sometimes have rental points as well). They said that was fine, just for me to contact them if I found someone else and they would refund our deposit. Well, I kept looking and couldn't find anything. About a week and a half later, I got an email from David's saying they now could book our rental if I wanted. I did and it worked out great. They were really helpful. I would do it again the same way if I needed to; so that's my advice to you. Just get into their queue, but also keep an eye on the rent/trade board and go to The Timeshare Store and sign up for their newsletter (if you don't already) - the rentals are at the end.

I booked a dedicated 2 bdrm LV and a studio LV at BLT at the 7 month mark for October 20-28, 2012, so it may not be that probably but it is possible!
