You can generally save more money by upgrading your meal plan than by changing to a moderate resort. We have priced it out for a few years now and generally end up upgrading the meal plan and staying at a value resort. It runs about $19 per day per adult to upgrade the meal plan. The upgrade for children is less than $5.

We are really hoping for FD the week of May 18 or the week in August 18

We really enjoyed the FD announcement back in 8/2010 for 8/2011! Makes for great planning!

In the meantime, I am waiting patiently to book as we will only go if there if FD.

I'd also like to know! Planning a trip at the end of April '13 and didn't think FD was generally offered around that time but would love if I could get that for our trip!

Really hoping for free dining in January . .. . we are going fairly early in the month when nothing else is going on. . so very hopeful. But we will be upgrading to the deluxe plan. . .

I've done it both ways... stayed at a value resort with free QS dining and paid extra for regular dining... and did the same at Moderate and paid extra for deluxe dining. For our Jan 2013 trip... hoping for free dining... it would cost us $57 more a night (for river view room) at Port Orleans with free regular dining compared to a value resort with free QS dining and paying the extra to have regular.

Depends on what you want. For us, $57 more a night is well worth it to have a room with queen size beds, a pool with a slide, and all the other little extras that come with a moderate resort (restaurant on site, entertainment in bar, boats to downtown disney, carriage rides, bike and boat rentals, etc....)

Yeah, and for us, a family of 10, it will actually be CHEAPER to stay in 2 rooms at POR than at 3 in a Value. I'm geeked that we might get to stay at a Mod!

So I'm fairly new to this still. . . is the free dining usually announced right at the first of the month ... or could it be anytime ? Weather we get free dining will greatly affect what we do, so I'm trying to be patient. .

Anytime. I think it was mid-Aug. last year.

When is it that you are looking to go. If you do a google search of free dining you can find wheat hey have announced it in the past. But if you are looking for FD for August it was already announced months ago and the deadline for booking your package has passed.
