I too am guilty of getting ebay pins. I can't tell the difference and I am sure most of the ones I traded for have a very good chance of being reproductions too. But my boys absolutely LOVED trading.
I don't venture into much of the DIS at all any more, so it's all good with me!

We've been burned a couple of times with fake pins - BUT - that's what trading is for!!!!! It was kinda funny, even, because one day when we were at Kidani the week before last, DD traded for a pin and not 2 seconds later DW wanted to look at it. She immediately turned it over and inspected it, seeing it was a fake, and convinced DD to trade it back - which the CM did gladly for her. DD then went on and found a different pin from a different CM that she wanted and was even happier.

For DD - it's mostly about the trading. She loves the art of the deal. But every so often she finds one she really wants and hangs on to it.

For DW - it's partly about the trade - mostly about collecting.

For DDs (both) it's all about collecting.

For me - I don't really care. I have a collection, but every so often I go through and eliminate ones and put them on my lanyard to be traded. The only ones that I "really" care about are special commemorative Annual Passholder ones that I know aren't readily available to the masses - especially the Disneyland AP ones. THOSE are the ones that I collect. The rest - eh, it doesn't really matter.

So we purposely buy on eBay just to trade. There's just something about getting pins for $1-3 each vs. $8-16 each. When trading, I purposely look for those pins that I've then observed in the shops - and then the ones that I've liked, I'll keep. Those that are just so-so, I'll trade to trade again later.

Nice. My office has low ceilings, so I can only kill so much time crawling up the walls.

If your salary doesn't change based on performance, does that suggest you don't have to perform as much?

There are so many post to quote so ill just speak in general, Thanks for all the trading advice, I didnt think about only having her bring ones she wants to trade and have the keepers at home, might take alittle to get her to understand that idea but its a really good one. Norm, Ive been wanting to change jobs for about 6 years, I dont think its ever to late, its just alittle harder when you have kids and wife and home and life lol, i figured my job would be 2 years max then i had a beautiful baby DD and for more years later still in the tractor trailer parts business when I have a degree in audio engineering.

Just saying anything is possible. :
I'd love to hear more. I admire all who own their own business or who are entrepreneurs. I'm not sure I can retrain my thinking now. There was a great book , "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" that talked about the difference. I wish I had read it earlier.

I get my retirement at 47. Well, at least until the government files bankruptcy and discharges it because they used my retirement money to bail out the CEO and give him a second helping of caviar. And, most of these government pensions are for employees who make less than 40K per year, which is sickening when I hear media reports about gutting state pensions programs.

Chris had a great idea of having them posted on a bulletin board. So, I added a bulletin board upstairs to my Disney room. My goal is to add a pin for the resort we stay in each year and a pin for each day of the trip, something new or special that happened. We have photo albums, photos on iPad, phone, etc, but it is a fun way to tell about my Disney trips thru pins.

Exactly. One of the reasons I only work 4 days a week this summer is that I am able to get in 5 days of work in 4. Since it worked so well, I may convince boss to let me have that schedule permanently. While the overall pay doesn't go up, the hourly rate does. I did different PRN work over the years to supplement my income and may think about that in the school year. This summer, I enjoyed spending time with my girls.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I still am not convinced right now. I know it's a terrible outlook - work another 10 years in a miserable job in exchange for monthly retirement pay - but it's all I have. I know I will pick up another job then. This plan all hinges on me not winning the lottery.

I have the red CC with stars. My mortgage is with Republic Bank and could not justify moving anything over to Chase for debit card.

Retirement at 47 sounds good, but I will need to borrow the DeLorean and the flux capacitor to go back in time.

NOW GET OFF MY LAWN!!!

All things considered I have a good life. Family is fairly healthy and what ills we have had we have been able to pay to treat so far. I've eaten today and have a roof over my head so I am doing better than much of the world. No dysentery or typhoid. Still on the green side of the sod.

Would of, could of, should of will drive you nuts but that is why I get frustrated with my kids. Trying to get them to learn from my mistakes rather than make the same ones over again.
