December 30, 2013 - New Year's Eve on the Disney Magic

Hello!!
Welcome to the 2013 New Year's Eve on the Disney Magic thread. I hope many people will join soon. In way of introduction, my daughter Christy (Satarma) and I (Mary) will be on this cruise. We are excited to be taking our first New Year's Eve cruise and meeting others who will join this group. We are from the Albuquerque, New Mexico area, but despite the distance involved, we try to have as many Disney experiences each year as we can manage.

On two of our past cruises, we participated in the Fish Extender activities and had a great time with the group. Although I have not organized a group like this to date, I decided to volunteer to do that for this cruise. I have begun a participant list on Google Docs, which can be accessed at https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...nc&output=html. I am happy to continue keeping it if everyone is OK with me doing that. Anyone who is interested in participating in the group and/or the FE exchange can send a message to the thread or send me a PM with the information included below and I will add your information to the list.

We still have a long time to go before our cruise sets sail, but I hope we can get to know each other a bit before our sail date gets here. Welcome in advance to this thread and to our New Year's Eve celebration!

I'm so glad you started this thread!! We have booked this cruise as well!!
It will be myself, Danielle, my DH, Proby, and our DD Sabrina! She isn't even born yet...it is crazy to think by the time we take this cruise she will be over a year old!! Lol!!

Hi Danielle!
I was surprised someone hadn't already started the thread, but I guess this cruise is pretty new to the schedule. We were originally scheduled for a different NYE cruise, but since the Magic is the only Disney ship we will not have sailed on by Dec 2013, we decided this would be the perfect opportunity to do that :-) "We" are me, Mary, and my daughter, Christy. We are both adults, but we have an amazing obsession with all things Disney :-)

It's really cool that you are planning your trip with your daughter who isn't even born yet :-) Planning trips so far in the future is a strange feeling even for us, and my daughter has been born for a long time now :-)

I love Mom and daughter trips!!! We live in NC an my mom lives in MI so we don't get to take trips too often anymore but I am hoping once my little one is born we will be taking some more girl trips!

We actually do Christmas near Ft. Lauderdale every year because my aunt has a condo there so this was the perfect add-on. Last year after Christmas we went on a three-day on the dream but the current was too rough to stop at castaway cay. I'm hoping the smaller boat will be able to make it in if the water is too rough. I've been there before but my hubby hasn't and really wants to go!!

Hi Danielle,
We were originally booked on the NYE Dream 4 night cruise, but as I mentioned before, we decided to change to this one because we haven't sailed on the Magic yet. We were planning to do a B2B on the Dream, but when we saw we had the opportunity to sail on the Magic, we thought we would go on the Magic first and then drive up to Port Canaveral and spend another 3-4 days on the Dream. It arrives back in port on the same day the Magic does (different port, of course) but the Magic disembarks at 7:30 AM and we thought we shouldn't have too much trouble getting to Port Canaveral by 4:00 PM when the Dream would sail away :-) The 2014 cruises haven't been announced yet, of course, and if they plan a 5 day or longer to back-up the NYE Dream cruise, we wouldn't be able to do it, but a 3-4 day would be perfect for us. Since the NYE cruise is a 4 day and it is right in the rotation of 3-4-3-4-3-4 etc on the Dream, we are actually hoping for a 3 day but a 4 day would still work. Do you have any experience with driving up from Miami to Port Canaveral to make the 4PM cruise on the same day that might be helpful to us?

You will easily be able to make it from Miami to port canaveral!! Last year we left ft lauderdale around 7am...drove to the Orlando airport to pick up my mom and her bf and still made it to the port by 12pm! The b2b is an awesome idea...I didn't even think about that!!! I might have to look into that when they finally get around to posting 2014!!
Do you have any other cruises between now and 2013 booked?

Unfortunately I do not know about getting the cruise meet added ...maybe he is on summer vacation?

Yes, we are booked on a Western Caribbean cruise on the Fantasy on May 11, 2013. We are excited about that one too. We had originally scheduled that cruise for May 2012, but when we did that, the 2012 Alaska schedule hadn't been announced yet, and we knew that if they scheduled Alaska cruises for 2012, we would be changing the Western Caribbean we scheduled for then to an Alaska cruise. So when the Alaska cruises came out, we changed. We just got back from there the first part of June. It was a great cruise, and we would love to go back, but there are soooo many places to see and not nearly enough time or money to do them all We are also tentatively booked on a 9/5/13 Pacific Coast 6 day cruise on the Wonder, but that one is really tentative, and it is honestly more of a place holder than anything else right now.

It would be cool if you decided to go on the Dream cruise immediately following the Magic cruise. We might even be able to share a car if we got one big enough for everyone's luggage Do you have any others booked between now and the end of 2013?

Also, are you interested in a Fish Extender group? I thought I would volunteer to set one up. I am going to edit my first post and put our FE information in. If you are interested, you can send me a PM with the information and I'll add you too. Hopefully there will be more than just us :-)

We went to Alaska on the May 28th cruise!! I loved that cruise...I would love to go back too but in a few years...

We are booked on the June 1st Mediterranean cruise but my brother announced a few weeks ago that he is getting married. His fiancé is from Paris so I'm pretty sure the wedding is going to be there and they already said it is going to be in June...in a perfect world; we could still go on the cruise and then go to Paris for the wedding but my luck would be that there would be a huge gap in between. My DH would never be able to take that much time off work so we will just have to wait and see on that one...

We also have a dummy cruise booked on the 9/3 Alaska....looking forward to moving that to something good for 2014...thinking panama canal...but we shall see

Definitely interested in fish extenders! I will look up my room number later tonight and pm you

Oh ps...we are driving to Florida in 2013 from nc...my current car would be a super tight fit for all of us and luggage but if we decide to rent a larger car (which we sometimes do if I can find an awesome deal) I'll definitely let you know

That is really funny! We were on the May 21 Alaska cruise. You got on the Wonder just when we got off. We were in Stateroom 6634. It would be funny if you took our room :-)

I hope you can work things out for the wedding and the cruise. I know about the time off thing though. I have been retired for four years and although I still work, I do everything online, so my schedule is very flexible. Christy's schedule is not quite as flexible though. She has good vacation time (as vacation time goes) so we are usually able to take two, week long vacations (plus a couple of days on either end) a year, but we do have to coordinate with her work schedule, what's going on at any given time, and the vacation times of other people in her office.

I forgot you had said you were driving. I really wasn't asking for a ride back to Port Canaveral :-)

I accidently found out that my DH booked our whole family on this cruise. We are a bigger family and need to book 2 rooms so DCL sent one set of confirmations to me and one to him (poor thing, he wanted to surprise me in August). Anyway I am going to have a hard time not telling the kids for basically a whole year. He wants to try and let them think we are doing what we always do for New Year Eve (which is also my birthday) and go to a nearby waterpark.

We are Tracy and Michael. Our kids are Matthew (14 by then) Sasha (a boy 12 by then) Alena (Sasha's twin also 12) and Lexi (who will be 11). They have cruised once on the Magic in March 2012, while Michael and I cruised on the Dream on the DVC Member cruise in January 13. We also have a 7 day on the Fantasy booked in August for just the two of us.

Looking so forward to sharing this trip with all of you...and trying to keep this big secret! Wish me luck!

I'm so glad you found the thread (although I'm sure your husband wasn't too glad you found out about the surprise :-) I started the thread ages ago and so far there is only us, you and one other who have responded. I'm sure more will come as it gets closer to time to go. I did start a (so far, a short one) FE list. Should I assume that since you sent your info that you want to be on it? Let me know for sure and I'll add you.

When we first booked, it was only my daughter and me on the cruise, but since then we have added my brother to our group, so we are Mary, Christy and Dwight. We also booked the back to back on Jan 2, so we will have 6 days. The Jan 2 will go to Key West for one day instead of Castaway Cay, so it won't be identical to the New Year's trip.

We will be on the Fantasy in May for a Western Caribbean, and were on the Dream for the Inaugural in 2011. We have been on the Wonder 3 times, and the Magic was the only Disney ship left that we won't have been on after we get back from our Fantasy cruise, so we were really excited to find it available for the New Years cruise so we can say we have sailed on all 4 Disney ships

We are excited about this cruise, and my brother is really excited because it is his first cruise ever. It'll be great to talk to you and Danielle and others who join the group, as we get ready for our New Year's Celebration!
